英文で下記の文章がよく分かりません。 We look at ourselves... say.. "Hey , we scare ourselves " because like that...... 「おれたちはおれたち自身を、こう言ってるんだ。 “おい、恐れるのは自分自身だ” なぜならば～」 テキストに載っている文章そのままなのですが（...もテキストのままです。省略している訳ではありません。） 分からない箇所が「because like that」なのですが、 because like で調べてみてもこのような構文が見つかりません。 beccause like とはどのような使い方をするものなのでしょうか？ becauseとbecause like thatは使い方は異なるものなのでしょうか？

いつもお世話になっています。 It looks like it is going to rain. という文があるのですが、この文の構造が気になりました。 look like のlike は前置詞だから後ろには名詞がきて look の後ろは形容詞がくるというのが多くみられました。 ここで気になったのは、上の文likeのうしろにSVがきていることです。 前置詞のうしろにSVはおけないのでは・・・と。 そこで自分なりに考えたのですが・・・ likeの後ろにthatが省略されていて、that以下が名詞節となり、最初のIｔが仮主語になっているのでしょうか？ わかる方、お願いします。

昔ある本で読んだのですが、The forecast says that it's going to rain. において、thatが省略されずにちゃんと使われる場合は、天気の話がすでに話題に出ている場合であって、thatが省略される場合は天気の話が新しい情報として示される場合であるとありました。 又、最近読んだ本では、many people think that Shakespeare was not a real person. という文において、thatの指し示す用法に注目し、このthatは丁寧に聞き手の関心を引こうとする表現であって、省略された場合はそうした気持ちがないのだと書いてありました。 一体、どちらの説明が正しいのでしょうか。それとも、両者共に正しいのでしょうか。 thatの基本の用法は、相手の見える範囲にあるものを指し示すことによって新情報として示すことにあるはずです。ただし、新情報でなくても、話者が強めて言いたいとときはいつでもthatが使えるはずです。その程度のことは知っているのですが、that節についてはよくわかりません。 ちなみに、私のこれまでの理解の仕方はというと、例えば、It is important that we should work hard. という文において、まず、itを登場させることによって、話し手と聞き手の共通の関心事がありますよ。(あるいは、世間の人が感心を持っていることがありますよ)と言っておいて、それから、実はそれはね、こういう事なんですよ。と紹介する構文だと理解していました。 この理解の仕方についても意見をお願いしたいと思います。よろしくお願いします。

thatについてなんですが、 たとえば i know that you like dogs. のように何かについて説明のときにthatをおきますが たまに thatじゃなく、 ～ that is ～. のような文章をみます これはどういうときに使うのですか thatだけの場合となにが違うのですか？たとえばある人物がでてくる話でその人物をＸＸをした子 みたいにいうときや、たとえばこれも同じですi figured that was the case, since you say last week you dont like him. どういうときにつかうのかわかりません "that was" おしえてください

We pray to be protected from the enemy. We pray for the enemy's change of heart. Barring that, we pray for the enemy's defeat. In the fullest posession of ourselves, we pray not to forget that we too are imperfect and need to remember the values that transcend our own need to win. 「敵を愛せ。」の解釈についてある司祭が述べている文章です。「敵から身を守るために祈れ」「敵が心変わりすることを祈れ」のあとに続く「敵の敗北（挫折？）を祈れ」の前にbarring thatが入ってますが、ここで、thatは「the enemy's change of heart」を指しているのでしょうか。辞書では、「barring」はexceptと同じ意味と載ってますが、それだと、意味が通じません。 あと、次に続く、In the fullest posession of ourselvesは、「こうした祈りを自分が出来るだけ目一杯に頑張って行った上で」といったニュアンスで理解していいのでしょうか。 英語力不足で暗愚な質問で申し訳ないですが、よろしくお願いします。

以下(1)(2)の文章のthatの使い方は間違っていないと思うのですが、 (3)の文章は文法的に間違っていないでしょうか？特にthatの使い方、 (2)のthatは省略可能と思いますが。(3)のthatも省略可能でしょうか？何かしっくりこないのですが。。 (3)はthe deal to acquire a 25%がしっくりくるのですが。正しいでしょうか？ 以上ご教授頂ければ幸甚です。 (1)I like this book that makes me happy. 接続詞that＋代名詞that文で、接続詞thatが省略されない、または出来ないのは何故？ NHK実践ビジネス英語2017年9月号までお休みして、過去のテキストを整理中です。 その中で、例文中に”that that”と続く文がいくつか見つかりました。 下記(1)から(8)中で、さすがに(4)の”Not that that’s a bad thing”の”Not that”は、”I don’t say that”の省略形かな。その省略を表す接続詞thatの省略は不可でしょうが、それ以外は何故、省略しない、または、できないのでしょうか？ 例文(7)(8)の2番目のthatは、指示形容詞かな。その例文(7)のI am glad [that]…は、参考書で「thatが省略されるのが普通である」という事例にもなっています。 (1) Recent surveys tell us that that's far from the truth.
