アメリカに住んで４０年目になりました。 私なりに書いてみますね。 ここでは、ジョークとして使われているわけですね。 ですから、キーワードのsmartと言う単語の二つのちょっと違った意味を出した表現をするとこのジョークの面白みがでてくるわけです。 アメリカのジョークはこの類が多いですね。 「頭のいいやつはそれなりにいい亭主になれるのかね?」 「（結婚して結構苦労しているやつらを見れば答えはでているよな）頭のいいやつの事は知らないけど、頭を使うやつならいい亭主になろうなんて考えないで結婚なんてしねぇよ」とか「結婚しなければ本当の意味での頭のいいやつと言えるだろうね」なんていう風にも訳せるのでは。 「自由を奪われたり、しりに敷かれたり、結局離婚したりしてやな思いをするやつは頭がいいとは言えんだろうが。」と言うことになるわけです。 参考になりましたでしょうか。 分かりにくいところがありましたら締め切る前にまた書いてくださいね。

smart は イギリスでは clean, tydy and stylish アメリカでは clever の意味 ひっかけて訳してみます。 「イケテル男っていい亭主になるの？」 「イケテル男ってのは結婚なんてしないの～」 皆様 男の人の会話で訳していらっしゃいますので 女言葉で訳してみました。これ ゲイの人達の会話として考えても 面白いですね。 これは 男性の会話ですか 女性の会話ですか おもしろ～い（＾Ｏ＾））））

はじめまして。 だいたいの回答は出ていますが、少し補足します。 １．smartは基本的には「頭のいい」という意味で使われますが、ここでは、知的というより、世渡りの上手な男、身のこなしの洗練された男、という全般的な意味を含めて「いい男」で片付けます。 ２．ここで使われている「結婚」は＝「一人の女に縛られること」という意味で使われていると推察しますので、その意味を前面に出すといいでしょう。 ３．以上を踏まえて訳例は 「いい男がいい旦那になるかって？」 「いい男は一人の女に縛られたりなんかしないのさ」 ぐらいになります。

笑えるようにというかあまり訳の幅もなさそうな気がしますが… 「賢い男が良い夫になれるのかい？」 「賢い男は結婚しないのさ」 ほぼ直訳です。
