logistics の補足説明です。 logistics は日本語で「兵站学」とか「後方支援」と訳されます。元は軍事用語ですが、一般的に使われる言葉です。 軍事では、いくらいい兵器を持っていてもそれに使う砲弾や弾薬、燃料が継続して補給されなくては戦争はできませんし、交代の兵隊や食料を補給することも大事なことです。太平洋戦争で日本が敗れたのは戦線を広げすぎて物資の補給ができなくなったことも大きな要因です。 国際会議のような大きな会議では、主役は出席者かもしれませんが、会議場の手配、同時通訳をそろえることなどとともにVIPの宿泊の手配や食事の準備など裏方の業務をロジスティックス担当といい、この役目なくして会議は成り立ちません。 運送会社のロジスティックスであれば、トラックや運転手をできるだけ効率よく運用することや荷物を仕分けすることをいうと思います。 たとえば、東京から京都行きと大阪行きの荷物を仕分けし、同じトラックに積み込むようにするとか、大阪までは１台のトラックで、市内の配送は小型のトラックに仕分けて配送するシステムを構築するなどだと思います。 以上参考まで。
