毎回おもうんですが、自分でできる範囲まで訳を入れれば何が分からないのか分かるんですけど、、、 ＞上記の文で、net はどういう意味になってるんでしょうか？ a small net to catch them should you drop one in the kitchenって書いてあるじゃないですか、（捕獲用の）網ですよ。 ＞cooking chopsticks は料理する時の長い箸ですよね？ Handling the scorpionsと書いてあるので、、料理なども含めて「取り扱い」ですね。 ＞net は基本的に「網」ですから私には理解不能になります。 虫取り網とか使った事はないのですか？ 質問者さんにお願いがあります。こうした英文を載せる時は出典を明らかにしてください。

いつも回答ありがとうございます。 ＞質問者さんにお願いがあります。こうした英文を載せる時は出典を明らかにしてください。 他の回答者さんは誰も要求されないのですが、room13 さんにとっては何故それが必要なんでしょうか？完璧に答えるにはそこまで知る必要があるという、理系ゆえの完璧主義から来るのでしょうか？ 回答者にも一長一短があって(失礼！)、ピンと来るような回答をされる人もいればそうでない人もいる。同じ回答者でも、時々で、的確な時とそうでない時がある。今回はNO.2 さんが「質問者が混乱したのは倒置法のせいだろう」と察して下さいました。自分の解釈のどこの部分が間違っているのかが分からないのですからコレは有難いです。余りに英文に慣れた方だと、この英文のどこが分からないのかが分からないようですね。＞a small net to catch them should you drop one in the kitchenって書いてあるじゃないですか、という反応になってしまうのです。これは多分英語に慣れ過ぎているせいの欠点でしょうね。ネイティブの知り合いもいるのですが、彼らは私の質問の意味を基本理解出来ません。どこが、何故分からないのかが、いくら説明しても理解出来ません。room13 さんに同じものを感じます。でも、room13 さんは日本の方でしょうから、説明すれば分かるでしょうが、ネイティブは基本的には日本人の質問の意味が理解出来ません。 でも一人日本語を数年勉強しているアメリカ人ネイティブの知り合いがいます。日本語習得に苦労しているのでしょう。直ぐに画像を示してくれます。以前フィリップロスの小説で、手を丸めて目を細くしてタバコを飲むなどの表現が出て来たので、一体どういう仕草を言ってるのか分からなかった時質問したら、さっと数枚の写真を示してくれました。その中の一枚を添付しますが百言を弄するよりも一枚の写真を見ることで、一秒で理解出来ました。アメリカ生活が長くて日本語にも造詣が深いSPS700さんが同じ手法を取られます。非常に有効な方法だと思います。 「この英文が描写してるのはコレのことだよ」と写真を見れば一瞬で解るのです。 因みに私は家庭教師や塾講師をやったことがあるのですが、学校の先生よりも遥かに分かりやすいと生徒たちから喜ばれました。それはここが恐らく分かりにくいのだろうと想像して、そこに焦点を当てて詳しく説明したり、質問されたら的確に質問の意味を把握したからではないでしょうか。何十年も前のことなので具体的なことは憶えておりませんが、兎に角「解りやすい」と評価されていたことは憶えております。 私もたまに回答者として投稿することもありますが、質問者としては失格なのかも知れません。 出来るだけ労力を省こうとして質問することがありますから。でも、必要最小限のことは書いてるつもりなんですけどね。添付できないのでリンクを貼ります。 https://www.shutterstock.com/ja/image-photo/young-businessman-lighting-cigarette-lighter-his-204119740
