「補足コメント」を拝見しました。 なるほど、諸状況から考えると主語は子どもで、「オレを血栓症にする」と解釈するのが自然な感じですね。ただ、そのためには、目的語の位置にthat kidがあるのをどう解釈したらいいでしょう。 唯一の方法は、She'll give me a thrombosis, that kid.《彼女のせいで血栓症になっちゃうよ、あのガキ（ときたら）。》のようにthrombosis とthat kidの間にコンマを入れて、that kidを呼格と見る解釈しかなさそうなのです。（実は、最初そう考えたのですがコンマの不在にこだわって考え直した経緯があります。） ただし、ぶり返してすみませんが、血栓症をめぐる状況はおっしゃるとおりに違いないとしても、亭主が「もののたとえ」として単に自分の身近な病名を子どもに当てはめただけ、という可能性も捨てきれないように思います。文脈の流れを存じませんので、もちろん断言はできませんが、添付された原文の構文だけを見る限りは、女房を主語と見るしか方法がないように思えてなりません。 翻訳者の方もそのあたりを悩まれたかも知れませんね。因みに、出版社あてにメールで質問する手がありますので、お勧めします。出版社は、受け取ったメールを訳者に回答してもらい、それを質問者に転送するというような方法で答えてくれるはずです。（私は何度か経験しました。）

再度の回答ありがとうございます。 ＞thrombosis とthat kidの間にコンマを入れて、that kidを呼格と見る解釈しかなさそうなのです。 さようならコランバスの全編を読みましたが、コンマが不必要に入っていたり、逆に必要なのに入っていなかったりしていたように思います。それで、私は彼の文章に関してはコンマのありなしを気にしないようになりました。 会話文ですから、余り文法的に読まないで自分が普段喋っている時のように読むようにしました。普通の会話ではこういう風な言い方をしますよね？ 「彼はそうしたんだ、あの男だよ」って後から付け加えたりしますよね？日本語でも英語でも会話ならしばしばそのような表現になりますよね。一番自然に感じる読み方としてそうなるので、コンマをわざと気にせずそう読みました。ただプロの専門家の翻訳が違っていたので、自分の読み方が間違っているのかと思って確かめたわけです。 Nakay702さんは英語に造詣が深い方だと思います。文法にも精通しておられるようです。このカテでも時々回答されている方でアメリカに数十年住んでおられる方がいます。アメリカ人と毎日喋り、毎日英語を読む生活をされいる方ですが、そういう人が英文を見ると感覚的にピ～ンと意味が分かるようですね。読むと言うより"見る"感じですね。私も一人６０代半ばのアメリカ人のインテリの友人がいます。このカテで埒が明かない時、彼女に議論の渦中の英文を見せると、立ちどころに判断します。「そんな英文の使い方は見たことがないし、したこともないよ。何故あんたはネットの回答者の解釈を信じるんだい？」と言われます。確かにネットの回答者の解釈は文法的には正しいしそういう解釈もあり得るのでしょう。しかし、アメリカでそういう使い方はされない、と。 私は昔、日本語を学んでいる外人に質問を受けたことがあります。彼は日本語の文法はかなり知っているようで、彼なりにその日本文を解釈します。その解釈は正しいかと訊いて来ます。我々日本人は日本文を読むと、ピ～ンと来ます。文法的なことを一切考えないでもほぼ正確に意味は取れます。しかし、その外人にはこのピ～ンがないんですね。文法知識を駆使して日本文を理解しようとするのですが、トンチンカンな理解が多々ありました。数十年前のことですから具体例は憶えていませんが、そういう印象ははっきり覚えています。 数十年英米に住んでいて日常的に英語を使っている人間と、英語を教科書として研究している人間には差があると思っています。プロの翻訳家は後者なので時々はトンチンカンな翻訳をしてしまうのでしょう。 Nakay702さんの英語の背景は知る由もありませんが、どうも研究者のように見えるのですがどうでしょう？研究者には研究者の盲点があるように見えるのですがどうでしょう？ もし、私の言ってることが失礼なことでしたら切にお許し下さい。 訳者の佐伯彰一氏は３年前に亡くなられていますので、問い合わせても訳者の回答は得られないでしょう。 偉そうなことを書いてしまいましたが、勿論貴方の解釈が正しい可能性も大です。SVOC的使い方もよくするのかもしれません。アメリカの友人はどう判断するのか楽しみです。
