thinking and thinkingと2回言うのは「ひたすら考えている」ということでしょうか？ これには言い方（＝切れ目の置き方）で解釈が二つあると思います （い）He is thinking and thinking / whether he dare. （ろ）He is thinking / and thinking whether he dare. （い）彼はあえてそうすべきか、考えに考えている。 （ろ）彼は考えている、それもただ考えているのではなく、あえてそうすべきか、悩んでいる。 前後の文章や、話し言葉なら言い方でどちらか決まると思います。

論文を書いていて困ってます。 The author does not know whether or not ＋「長い文」. の形の文章は The author does not know whether or not 文Ａ and whether or not 文Ｂ． などのように分割したほうが良いのでしょうか？ 例 筆者は彼が金持ちなのか、飛行機を持っているのか知らない。 The authour does not know whether or not he is rich and has an airplane. 修正例 The authour does not know whether or not he is rich and whether or not he has an airplane. そもそも例として挙げた文章は英訳が間違ってるんでしょうか？ 論文として書いているので、できるだけ細かいことまで教えていただけるとありがたいです。修正例の、「and」の前にはコンマを入れた方がよいのでしょうか？ なお、僕は理系です。また、実際の「長い文」には例よりもずっと長い学術的文章が入ります。

Any teacher can take a child to the classroom,but not every teacher can make him learn.He will not work joyously unless he feels that liberty is his,whether he is busy or at rest;he must feel the flush of victory and the heart-sinking of disappointment before he takes with a will the tasks distasteful to him and resolves to dance his way bravely through a dull routine of textbooks. 上の文で 前半のwhether he is busy or at restはどのように訳したらいいのですか。(heはchildですよね?) それから、後半の文章なのですが、 beforeの後はheが主語でtakes the tasks distasteful to himと続くのだと思うのですが、and resolves to dance がどうつながるのか、文法と訳がわかりません。 教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

中学のとき形式主語itはto不定詞をとりうる、と習いました。whetherやhow, whenなどの疑問詞もとりうるのでしょうか？ It is not important whether he shows up or not. このitはこの文の前の特定の内容を指すことになるのか、whether he shows up or not を指すのかどちらでしょうか。

病気のことがかいてあるのですが、よくわかりません。 日本語に訳してください。宜しくお願いします。 When he needs medical attention and advice he will delay seeking it, because he always fears the worst, and is afraid of illness, even as it afflicts him, he fears it. Suffers complaints from living in damp houses, damp cellars, basements. When ill he looks ill, he becomes totally tired and worn out physically and mentally exhausted. He is cold and clammy and sweaty and collapsed. He retains his dignity in illness but wont do as he is told thinks he knows better than the Doctor. His illness are usualy short and predictable, because when he begins to come down with bad health, a day or two before he shows any symptoms, he is lax, careless fed up, cannot be bothered, and lets everything in his life slide.
