He is who and what he is. とあったのですが、who he isとwhat he isの違いについて教えてください。 who he is の場合は、名前や続柄 what he isの場合は、職業や肩書きです。 He is who and what he is.

He is who and what he is. He is who he is. He is what he is. He is Taro. He is my brother. のTaroやmy brotherみたいなwho。 He is a bad guy. He is a brilliant person. のa bad guy, a brilliant personみたいなwhat。

  • who knows what things…

Marcus reminded himself: “Don't await the perfectior of Plato's Republic." He wasn't expecting the world to be exactly the way he wanted it to be, but Marcus knew instinctively, as the Catholic philosopher Josef Pieper would later write, that “he alone can do good who knows what things are like and what their situation is.” who knows what things are like and what their situation isの部分は、少し離れていますが、“he alone のheを先行詞とする関係節である、という理解であっているか自信がないです。

  • (280)He who adds……

    (280) He who adds to what he has, will keep off bright-eyed hunger; for if you add only a little to a little and do this often, soon that little will become great. What a man has by him at home does not trouble him: it is better to have your stuff at home, for whatever is abroad may mean loss. It is a good thing to draw on what you have; but it grieves your heart to need something and not to have it, and I bid you mark this. Take your fill when the cask is first opened and when it is nearly spent, but midways be sparing: it is poor saving when you come to the lees. [試し訳と質問] (1)He who adds to what he has, will keep off bright-eyed hunger; 彼が(何かを)持つために追加する彼は、青い目をした空腹を避けるだろう。 He will keep off bright-eyed hunger (b)bright eyed hunger;『輝く眼をした空腹』とは何か 「空腹の目」「物乞いの目」でしょうか (c) He who adds to what he has, 読み替えれば、He who has to add somethingでしょうか。 (2)for if you add only a little to a little and do this often, soon that little will become great. a little to a little: 「少しのものに少し」→「少しづつ」でしょうか (3)What a man has by him at home does not trouble him: it is better to have your stuff at home, for whatever is abroad may mean loss. (a)it is better to have your stuff at home, (b) for whatever is abroad may mean lossについて abroad;(古英)外、戸外 loss;損失、(風雨による損失か、盗まれる意味か、分別出来ない) (c) does not trouble himについて stuffをhomeに持った方がno troubleだという意味でしょうか。 It is a good thing to draw on what you have; but it grieves your heart to need something and not to have it, and I bid you mark this. Take your fill when the cask is first opened and when it is nearly spent, but midways be sparing: it is poor saving when you come to the lees. (a)poor savingは、poor who are savingと読めるでしょうか (b)midways be sparingの、be~ingは、進行形だけの意味ではなく、 硬い表現の感じがしますが、良く分かりません。
