＞Recently I am so busy that I seldom read the newspaper. という文章を Recently I am too busy to read the newspaper. と書き換えようとしたのですが、seldome をそのまま使えないので困っています。ご指導お願いします。 ⇒この場合、seldomに対応する肯定の副詞 (so) often を使えばよいと思います。 すなわち、 Recently I am too busy to read (so) often the newspaper. と書き換えればＯＫでしょう。なお、so はあってもなくてもいいです。

This book is so difficult that I can't read it. は、This book is too difficult for me to read. となりますが、 This book is so difficult that I don't read it. は、too to にはならないような気がします。また、他の助動詞でも、shouldn't とかでもならないと思います。 これはどうしてですか？

so ～ that と too ～ to それから、 enough to に not がつくと意味がとりにくくなりますが、可能性として、 1 not so ～ that 2 so ～ that ... not 3 not too ～ to 4 too ～ not to 5 not ～ enough to 6 ～ enough not to の６つはすべて文としてありえるのでしょうか？

He is too old to drive a car. He is old enough to drive a car. という文は両方とも正しいと思います。 しかし、so that に書き換えると、 He is so old that he can't drive a car. ×He is so old that he can drive a car. となって、一番下は成立しません。 He is too 形容詞 to 不定詞. He is 形容詞 enough to 不定詞. のように、同じ形容詞、不定詞を使って、しかも、so ～ that に書き換えることができる例文があったら、教えてください。よろしくお願いいたいたします。

It's too cold to swimの書き換えですが、so～that文への書き換えならよく見るのですが、It's too cold for swimmingでも可能ですか？私の辞典にそれらしいのが出てたのですが、見方がはっきりしないので確信がもてません。よろしくお願いします。

添付ファイル文章: He felt that he ought to have disdained that despicable wretch, Fyodor Pavlovitch, too much to have been upset by him in Father Zossima’s cell, and so to have forgotten himself. の理解ができないです。 He felt that he ought to have disdained that despicable wretch, Fyodor Pavlovitch, 「彼はあの見下げ果てた卑劣感、 フョードル・パヴロヴィチを軽蔑すべきであったと悔やんだ。」 までは理解できるのですが、 そのあとの文章が理解できないです。 too much to have been upset by him in Father Zossima’s cell, and so to have forgotten himself. too much の後にある、 have been とhave forgotten のそれぞれの前にはought to の省略があると理解していいのか分からないです。また、 too much to do の構文のように感じるのですが文法的にどういう構造になっているのか 分からないです。 解説宜しくお願いします。
