下に書いてあるようにso＝veryです。これはよく使う物なので覚えておくと便利だと思います。 it tookで『時間（期間）がかかる』、so longが『とても長く』（for meが『私が』）to write backが『返事を書くことが』to youで『あなたに』なので普通に意訳すと that以降は『返事を書くのがこんなに（とても）遅くなって』となります。

もうご回答が出ているように、“so”は“very”です。「soの使い方も、イマイチ理解していない」とおっしゃるのは、“so ～ as”などといった組み合わせで使う場合のことを指していらっしゃるのだと思いますが、ここでの“so”は素直にただ“very”です。 以下はNo. 2の方の補足になるかと思いますが……。 It takes 時間： 「これこれの時間がかかる」 It takes 時間 to ～ (不定詞)： 「～するのにこれこれの時間がかかる」 そして、この「～する」を誰がするのか表したいとき、つまり「○○が～するのにこれこれの時間がかかる」と表現したいとき、 It takes 時間 for ○○ to ～ とする、というわけです。ご質問タイトルを“so long for me to”という切り方で挙げられたところから想像するに、ひょっとして、“for me”を「私にとって」と読まれたのではないでしょうか。No. 2の方のおっしゃるように、また上記の通り、この場合、“for”で表される者は、to不定詞の主語です。
