After all the senior officers became casualties the 70 survivors were withdrawn, minutes before the 7th Battalion Highland Light Infantry (157th Brigade), under heavy Ottoman artillery fire, arrived from Eastern Force reserve to reinforce them. The battalion of the 157th (Highland Light Infantry) Brigade was forced to dig in just to the south of Outpost Hill.
