こんにちは。5／19のご質問ではお返事を有難うございました。 ご質問１： ＜二つとも同じような意味になると思うのですが＞ 同じような意味にはなりません。 １．We need～の方は「～が必要だ」と言っています。 ２．We can't～withoutの方は「～がなくては・・・できない」と言っています。 ３．We can't～withoutの文は We need～の文の「前提」でしかなく、後者がその「結論」となります。 ４、別の言い方をすれば、「彼の協力なしでは達成できない」という推量・判断は、「（だからこそ）彼の協力が必要だ」という結論・主張の前座でしかないのです。 ５．つまり、この２文は「＝イコール」ではないということです。 「彼の協力なしでは達成できない」≠「彼の協力が必要だ」 ６．従って、ご質問文の和文に適う英訳は、needを用いた文になります。 ご質問２： ＜・・・自信はありません＞ よくできている英文ですが、以下の点を工夫されるとこなれた英訳になるでしょう。 １．目的にgoalを用いるのであれば、動詞はreach「～に達する」の方が達成感・到達感のニュアンスが出ます。 ２．「目的を達成する」という表現でattain、achieveなどと一緒に使うなら、目的を「対象となるターゲット」のニュアンスで捉え、object・objectivesなどがいいかと思います。 例： achieve our object ３．「協力」は文脈によってはhelp、supportなどでもいいでしょう。 ４．「私達の目的を達成するには」とは言い換えれば、「私達が目的を達成するには」ということですから、意味上の主語をforで置いてもいいでしょう。 ５．以上を踏まえて訳例は We need his help for us to reach the goal. （直訳）「私達が目的を達成するには、彼の援助が必要だ」 となります。 ６．なお、和文では「彼の協力」に重点が置かれていますから、それを強調するのであれば、主語に持ってくるといいでしょう。 例： His support is necessary for us to achieve the object. （直訳）「私達が目的を達成するには、彼の援助は必須だ」 His support is required to achieve our objectives. （直訳）「私達の目的を達成するのに、彼の援助が求められる」 ７．また、can't～withoutのニュアンスを汲み「彼の援助なしでは達成できない」の意味を重視するのであれば、「～なしにはできない」「～は不可欠だ」といった意味の形容詞indispensableなども、その語感を出せます。 例： His collaboration is indispensable for us to achieve the object. （直訳）「私達が目的を達成するには、彼の協力は不可欠だ」 ８．また、can't～withoutの強調はcan never～without「・・・なしでは決して～できない」になります。 以上ご参考までに。

(1)I think we need to modify our plans based on the feedback we've gotten. 寄せられた意見をもとに、計画を修正する必要があると思う。 質問は(1)は日本語を英訳すると (2)I think we need to modify our plans basing on the feedback we've gotten. では？ (1)の英文を日本語訳にすると「寄せられた意見をもとにした私たちの計画は修正する必要がある。」つまり、『得られた感想に従って多数の意見も取り入れるために計画をどうこうする』という意味の日本語が『もうすでにほかの人の感想も聞いて取り入れた計画を再度見直す』ということになりませんか？ 教えてください。
