ご質問の文の the ballet はプレミアリーグの比喩と考えた方がいいみたいですね。 一方、この文のパターンは、次のような決まった言い回しのようです。 if he thinks ... he has another thing coming. google で検索したのですが、another thing は "..." の否定に相当するケースが多いような気がします。

全文を読まないとわからないと思いますが、 if other footballers are likely to follow him to the ballet, he has another thing coming....のところのbattletが文字通り「バレー好きな稲本選手」として後ほどの話題にかけられているので、要するに、バレー劇場まで押し寄せるファン＝日本選手が稲本のように海外に挙って（こぞって）移籍してやってくる、という意味だと思います。しかし、「ＩＦ」以下ですが、彼には「別の手がある」とか「彼はただ海外に移籍しただけじゃない」というふうに中盤にかかります。 英語も楽しんでいるし、ワーゲンも乗り回す、服にも困らない・・。彼のイギリスでの楽しみ方が、ただ単に「海外移籍」にとどまっていないということですね。Another thingsが、これらのことを指しています。（英語ではanother thingと単数扱でかきますが。)

he has another thing coming は、直訳すると、『彼は別のものを招くことになる』ですから、『ついてきそうだと思うなら、当てが外れる』といった感じではないでしょうか in the capital …の方は、直訳すれば、『日本と異なり、6フィート程度の身長であることが、選択の幅を狭めることを意味しない、この首都で』ですから、お考えの通りでいいと思いますよ
