The need for ... (, as you might suspect,) is as old as humankind. 「... From ... to ~「... others different from themselves

suspect: To believe or to guess 。。

Secondly, the imbalance consumers had not purchased Japanese goods in such large quantities. The fact that they do indicates that American consumers are very happy with their purchases. This. in turn, would lead one to suspect that the positive attitude Amer-icans have toward Japanese products would translate into other positive attitudes toward the Japanese. It has created a greater need among Americas to know what it is about the Japanese and their culture that allows them to produce such good products. The most obvious example of this was the Japanese management boom. American business schools dras-tically increased the number of classes in Japanese management. Best-selling books such as Ouchi's Theory Z and Vogel's Japan as Number One were written about the theories of Japanese management. American scholars flocked to Japan. Concepts such as quality control, lifetime employment, bottom-up decision making, and just-in-time purchasing became part of every American businessman's vocabulary. But the need to understand went beyond the business world's need to compete. Mary average Americans who bought the products wanted to know more about the country from which they came

Increasingly, many Japanese companies are conducting joint projects with foreign companies. The purpose of this is to produce competitive and marketable products in an efficient and inexpensive way by combining the resources of both companies. Members of such international projects therefore use email often to communicate with their counterparts overseas. Within the last decade, email has virtually replaced other means of business communication such as telephone, fax, and regular mail. Also, more and more Japanese companies are holding video conferences with their business partners overseas. Thus, email and video conferencing are essential to modern international business communication. Good interpersonal relationships are very important in business,as they form the basis for our ability to negotiate effectively. In other words, skill in dealing with human relationships is key to maximizing business performance. Strong interpersonal relationships, for instance, lay the foundation for the successful launch of joint projects or ventures with business partners. Therefore,it is vital to understand the important role played by hospitality. Consequently,it is essential not only to learn etiquette but also to cultivate a spirit of hospitality in international business settings. Simply put, intercultural communication is defined as communication between persons from different cultural backgrounds. There is no doubt that communication methods are substantially influenced by culture. Today globalization is rapidly bringing together companies of different nations to conduct business together. Accordingly many workplaces are becoming increasingly multicultural. Therefore, success in such business environments is largely attributable to learning the art of cultural mediation. For this reason,it is important to consider not only language barriers, but also cultural differences that affect both business and interpersonal communication.

Communication does more than enable us to survive. It is the wayーindeed, the only way we learn who we are. Our sense of identity comes from the way we interact with other people. Are we smart or stupid, attractive or ugly, skillful or silly? The answers to these questions don't come from looking in the mirror. We decide who we are based on how others react to us. Deprived of communication with others, we would have no sense of identity. We shouldn't overlook the everyday, important functions communication serves. Communication is the tool that lets us tell the doctor where it hurts. It is the means of learning important information in school. It is the method you use to convince a future employer that you're the best candidate for a job. It's worth nothing that inability to express yourself clearly and effectively can prevent you from achieving your goal. At the same time, It's just as important to avoid misunderstanding about communication. Avoiding the following misunderstandings can save you a great deal of personal trouble. The biggest mistake we can make is to assume that saying something is the same thing as communicating it. There is no guarantee that a receiver will understand the message in a way that matches the sender's intention. There are also situations when too much talking is a mistake. Sometimes excessive communication is simply unproductive, as when two people go over the same ground again and again without making progress. There are other times when talking too much deepens the problem. There are even times when no communication is the best course. Sometimes clear communication is even the cause of problems. Suppose, for example, that a friend asks you for an honest opinion of the $200 outfit he has just bought. Your clear and sincere answer, “I think it makes you look fat,” might do more harm than good. Deciding when and how to say something honestly isn't always easy. Most people assume that communication is an ability people develop without the need for trainingーrather like breathing. Although almost everyone does manage to communicate with others without much formal training, people operate at a level of effectiveness far below their potential. Learning and practicing proper skills can help virtually every one become a better communicator. ・1段落最後の文、“Deprived of communication with others,”を節に書き換え ・文中のIt、It's、itといった代名詞の指す内容を出来る限り教えて下さい。

Aqaba was not in and of itself a major military obstacle; a small village at the time, it was not actually garrisoned by the Turks, though the Turks did keep a small, 300-man garrison at the mouth of the Wadi Itm to protect from landward attack via the Sinai Peninsula. The Royal Navy occasionally shelled Aqaba, and in late 1916 had briefly landed a party of Marines ashore there, though a lack of harbour or landing beaches made an amphibious assault impractical. The British feared that Aqaba would threaten their flank as Murray's troops advanced into Palestine, or could be used as a base for German submarines in the Red Sea. The main obstacle to a successful landward attack on the town was the large Nefud Desert, believed by many to be impassable. The expedition started moving towards Aqaba in May. Despite the heat of the desert, the seasoned Bedouins encountered few obstacles aside from occasional harassment from small bands of Arabs paid off by the Turks; they lost more men to attacks by snakes and scorpions than to enemy action.[citation needed] During the expedition, Auda and Lawrence's forces also did severe damage to the Hejaz Railway. Auda and his men reached the Wadi Sirhan region, occupied by the Rualla tribe. Auda paid 6,000 pounds sterling in gold to their leader to allow his men to use Wadi Sirhan as a base. Lawrence's plan was to convince the Turks that the target of his attack was Damascus, rather than Aqaba. At one point in this expedition, he went on a solitary reconnaissance expedition, destroying a railroad bridge. Lawrence did this largely to convince the Turks that the Arab force - of which they had received vague reports - was moving towards Damascus or Aleppo. The expedition then approached Daraa, and captured a railroad station nearby. This action confirmed for the Turks, who had heretofore been misled as to the Arab army's intentions, that Aqaba was indeed their target.
