数学の問題で
数学の問題なのですがどういう意味なのでしょうか? 当初の金額の25%offに40%を利益として上乗せすると$30であった。 その時、当初の金額は$56.00である。 と解釈したのですが計算してみても辻褄が合いません。誤釈しているのでしょうか? A dealer gives a 25 percent discount on the list price of a radio and still makes a 40 percent profit on the cost of the radio.If the cost of the radio is $30 then the list price of the radio is $56.00.

still makes a 40 percent profit on the cost of the radio というのは，「それでも，cost（原価）に対して40％の利益を得る」という意味です。「利益」というのは「原価」に対して計算するもので，実際，英語でも profit on the cost となっています。 原価 30 に利益 40％をが加えた30×140/100＝42 が（値引き後の）売値です。25％ discount する前の the list price を A とおくと，A×75/100＝42となりますので，A＝56 となります。

ラジオのコストが$30です。（the cost of the radio is $30）。 利益が40%なので、売値が$42になります。（still makes a 40 percent profit）。 30×140%=$42 この売値は値札から25％割引されたものなので、値札の値段は$56ということになります。（A dealer gives a 25 percent discount on the list price）。 $42÷75%=$56
