It seems to be misunderstanding between him and her. は残念ながら誤りです。 It seems that he is sick. ＝ He seems to be sick. これが基本形です。 it seems that の場合、it は形式主語的 （もっとも、形式主語では文法的には説明できず、状況の it のようなもの。 文法的にこの it は説明しにくいです。 形式主語という人が多いかもしれませんが、説明が破たんします。 いい加減な文法理解ならそれでもいいですが） seem to を使うなら、it seems that の that 節内の主語を seem to の主語へと繰り上げるのです。 だから、It seems to be misunderstanding between him and her. であれば It seems that it is misunderstanding between ～. となって、that の後の it is ～が意味不明。 やはり、「誤解がある」という「ある」の意味が必要で、それが there is ～なわけです。 こういう there は英語圏ではしばしば（it とは違った意味で）形式主語とされ、 一種の主語なので he seems to となるように、there seem(s) to となるのです。 seem か seems は be の後の名詞で決まります。 understanding という単数なら seems です。 There has to be a good relationship between ～. ～間でよい関係がある必要がある。 こういう have to と同じように seem to は考えればいいです。 ＞A misunderstanding seems to exist between him and her. は文法的には正しいかもしれませんが、やはり違和感があります。 「世の中に存在する」みたいな感じで、 やはりこの「ある」は there is がふさわしいです。 A pen exists on the table. なんておかしいのと同じです。

I have been friends with “Jon” for four years. He’s a great guy but not my type. Four months ago Jon got drunk, confessed his undying love for me, and tried to kiss me. Google で検索をすると、 What it seems like to me. What seems like to me. の２種類がヒットします。 意味は私にとって感じられること。 となり What （＝the thing which) は関係代名詞と理解しています。 it があるのとないのでは、意味が違うのでしょうか？ 又 it は何を指しているのでしょうか？ What seems to be your problem? という表現は慣用句的に、頭に入っています。 またこの用法では、 what は関係代名詞ではなく、疑問詞であろうことも理解しています。 よろしくご教示願います。

こんにちは。 「彼と彼女には頭一個分の身長差があるはずなのに」という文章を作りたいのですが、「頭一個分」が上手く英語に置き換えられなくて困っています。 一応「あるはず」は"There has to be..."で、「彼と彼女の間の差」は"between him and her"にしようかとは思っていますが…。 どう表現したらいいのかご存知の方、ぜひ教えてください。
