expect to doの形は私も使いますのでわかりますが、 be expecting to doの形は不自然だと思っておりました。 ★He expects to be promoted shortly. という例文（これは正しいのはわかります）が英語基本動詞辞典にありました。 また、この点について、違う例文ではありますが、ネイティブスピーカー複数に確認したところ、 be expecting to doの形を認めておられます。 以上のことから、be expecting to doの形は不可とした私の回答を訂正いたします。 Mr. Jackson was ( ) to be promoted to marketing manager because his sales record had been the best for five years. 従いまして、上記の文につきましては、expectingも文法的には可能と言わざるを得ません。 間違ったことを書き込みましてまことに申し訳ありませんでした。

expect to 原形で「～するつもりである，（自分が）～することを予想する」 という表現はあります。 どの辞書にも載っているはずです。 進行形も使えるでしょう。 「売り上げが５年もトップだったので，販売部長に昇進するつもりでいた， することを予想していた」 expected に比べると，圧倒的に頻度は低く，不自然さはあるかもしれませんが， 選択肢としては微妙です。 ここで expecting が選択肢にないと問題にならない部分もありますが， 不適切な問題だと思います。

X is expecting.で、Ｘが人なら、その人は妊娠しているという意味になります。 I am expecting him to come. なら、彼が来ることを期待していますとなります。 Aは無理です。 I'm hoping to meet him.は可能ですが I'm expecting to meet him. のように、不定詞のみを目的語にすることはできません。 以上、ご参考になればと思います。

こんにちわ。英語初心者です。 英会話で「to」や「for」などは省いても伝わりますか？ 例えば、 ・I'd like to move to a bigger room. のtoは、文章問題とかでは書かないと不正解になりますが、英会話では使わなくても伝わりますか？ また、 ・I'd like to speak to Mr.gordon. などのto ・I'd like to ask for her namber. などのfor I'd like to〜でなくてもいいです。 よろしくお願いいたします。

市販の問題集で、 The company's revenue last quarter exceeded --- by nearly 12 percent. A) expect B) expected C) expectant D) expectations というセンテンスの空所にexpectationsを入れる、というのが正解になっているのですが、いまいち納得できません。（他３つが正解でないことはわかります。） どなたかご説明いただけないでしょうか？ （私の感覚だと、by nearly 12 percentというフレーズが続いているので、expectationが複数なのはどこかしっくりこないのです。） よろしくお願い致します。

Ｗhen I identified myself ,he said he didn't expect me to be blond , since he was looking for a fellow Jewish and then he laughed , because of all times he himself had been told he didn't look like what people expected , because he too is a blond Jewish. 文章の途中なのでわかりにくいかもしれません。 疑問に思ったのは、what people expected のところで、ここは時制を後ろにずらす必要があるのではないかなと思いました。 この部分について教えていただけると助かります。
