意味がおかしい？
いつもお世話になっております。 早速ですが、質問です。 文：Mr. K described the city as a place where the citizens are known for their hospitality. 訳：Ｋさんは、この町は市民が訪れた人たちを歓迎することで知られていると、語りました。 本では、「訪れた」と訳されていますが、「where」の事でしょうか？ なぜ、このような訳になるのかが良く分かりませんでした。 回答、宜しくお願いします。

「訪れる」という意味の単語は使われていません。hospitality 「温かいもてなし」という意味です。それを「訪れる人を歓迎すること」という意訳につなげているのです。 直訳すると、「Ｋ氏はその町が市民が温かい歓迎で知られている場所であると評している。」となりますが、質問文の意訳の方が通じやすいです。

「hospitality」の意味を理解していますか？ 訪問者、来客などを歓待する、歓迎することという意味なのですよ。 単語の学習は「対訳語」を覚えるだけでなく、その言葉がもっている意味の広がりを覚えて下さい。 とても大切なことです。

直訳すれば 「Kさんは、その町を、市民が歓待で知られる町だと叙述した。」 ですから「訪れた」に直接相当する言葉はありません。hospitality は、「歓待」、転じて、よそから来る人を手厚くもてなす ＞ 訪れた人を歓迎する、となったものと思われます。

ALTがいうには不自然だそうですが、なぜ不自然かは説明できないそうです。 おそらく生徒は「新潟は信濃川が美しい町です」と言いたかったのだと思います。 文法は受験英語レベルではあってるとは思うので、ネイティブの感覚的なものでしょうか？ 文法は修正の余地はあって例えば、 Niigata is a city, where the Shinano river is beautiful. Niigata is the city where the Shinano river is beautiful. などとすればニュアンスは変わりますが、ネイティブが不自然という原因の 解決にはならないと思います。 自分は、はじめ文脈がないのがその原因かと思いました。そこで以下のような 文章を作ってみましたが、より自然になるわけでもなく文脈の問題ではない気がしました。 The Shinano river flows through several prefectures from Hokuriku to Kanto area. Most part of the Shinano river is in Niigata prefecture and the river flows through the center of Niigata city. But in modern times, tourists in Acapulco have been facing problems with the local corrupt police who steal money by extortion and intimidate visitors with threats of jail. There have been reports of dead bodies everywhere, and if you are at the wrong place at a wrong time, no one can guarantee you won’t end up the same. The history of the acts, combined with the process of citizenship are starting to change how we look at race as a whole. こちらの英文なのですが、「もしアメリカの法に違反した場合移民は元の国へ強制送還される」 even if ～以降がよくわからないのですが「たとえ法を何年か前に犯して、今は責任ある市民になっていたとしても」つまり、「数年前に法を犯しても改心して今は責任ある市民としてアメリカに住んでいたとしても、法を犯したことが判明すると強制送還（帰国）させられる」ということでしょうか？ ２文目は「法律の歴史は、市民権のプロセスと結びついて、人種全体の見方を変え始めています」ということであっていますか？ こちらの英文を訳してほしいです。よろしくお願いします。
