英文ニュース記事に以下のような英文がありました。 Michael Grandner said the was "great" in the way it showed how the combination of sleep deprivation and misalignment with your internal clock takes a toll on the body in ways that neither one of those alone can cause. 少し長いですが、疑問に思った部分は、最初の方にある、 「the was "great" in the way 」 の部分です。 theの後にwasが来るとどういった意味になるのでしょうか。。 googleで「the was great」で調べてみると結構英文がヒットしており、かなり戸惑っております＞＜ どなたか英語に詳しい方、ご回答お願い致します。

ABC News からの記事ですね。 http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/04/11/sleep-problems-linked-to-obesity-diabetes/ 私には二通りの可能性が考えられます。 (1) "that" の誤植で "the" となった。 つまり本来であれば、Michael Grander said that was "great" in the way it ... (2) "the" の後に単語が一つ抜けてしまっている。 例えば本来であれば、Michael Grander said the finding was "great" in the way it ... 少なくとも、「Michael Grander said the was "great" in the way it ...」という表現はおかしいと思います。

これはさすがに単なる脱字脱字だと思いますよ… たぶん the と was の間に、なにか名詞が入るのでしょう。the result was ＝その結果は～を示した素晴らしいものだ、とか、that experiment was ＝その実験は～を示した素晴らしいものだ、とか。
