この前は唐突に"Erga"なんて書いてAndromackeさんに余計な調べる手間を取らせてすみません。Ergaというのはヘシオドスの「仕事と日」の原題Erga kai hemerai(エルガ カイ ヘーメライ）略して「エルガ」です。Works and Days と同じことです。 さて、 Even less is known of the poem called the "Great Works" ここは the poem called the "Great Works"が1つの名詞句です。 →「"偉大な仕事"と呼ばれる詩」については知られていることはさらに少ない。 （1）1106 は文章とつながっていません。もしかしたらページ数か注釈の参照番号などの数字がまぎれこんだのではありませんか。 Possible references in Roman writers は 「ローマの文筆家作品中にある（"Great Works"について書かれた）可能性のある言及」 indicate that（以上から次のことがわかる）among the subjects dealt with (扱われた主題の中には）were the cultivation of the vine and olive and various herbs (葡萄の木とオリーブそして色々な薬草の栽培があった） Great Works はローマ時代までは詩自体はともかく抜粋や内容についてのメモ書きの様なものは伝わっていたのでしょう。ただしそのメモにはっきりと「ヘシオドス作"Great Works"」という題名が挙げられているわけではなく、例えば遠まわしに「勤勉を尊んだ詩人の失われた作品断片から写す」のような添え書きがあったり、あるいは文体や方言の特徴からヘシオドス作と推定されるような文章だったりするものを、Possible referencesと表現しているのだろうと思います。 田園での農作業や作物の栽培法を詩に歌うというのはいかにも古典期のローマ人好みです。
