アタシには受験英語の観点から見ても、この虫食い問題の答えは「to不定詞」を使った英文を「that節」を使った英文に書き換えることを試しているので、"I hoped that I came here earlier."とする以外の回答は適切ではないと思いますがー？ (1) "I hoped to have come ealier." (2) " I hoped that I had come here earlier." (3) "I hoped that I could have come earlier." （１）＝（２）ですが、（１）≠（３）であり、（２）≠（３）ということは、d-yさんと naruto928さんにはわかるかな？ （１）「もっと早く来ていたということを願いました。」 （３）「もっと早く来ていたことが可能であることを願いました。」 意味も微妙に違いますが、（１）と（２）のような言い方が使われる状況としては、過去のある時点に、「（あの時に）もっと早く来ていたら」（過去完了）と、過去のある時点よりも前に起きた出来事（もっと早く来ていた）を思い浮かべた（過去形に注目）ということになり、質問文で言っていることとは、使われる状況が時制的に合わないということになります。 使える英語と言えばいいのでしょうかー？ 実際に「もっと早く来たかったと願いましたが、来ることができませんでした」と英語で言うのであれば、 "I wish that I came earlier." という言い方が無難でしょうなー。で、現実的に（１）の言い方をすることは殆どあり得ないと思います♪ ということで、「to have come」は正誤問題の選択にあるチョイスだったとしたら、誤回答であると再度カキコします～♪ あと、d-yさんの方程式を見てみると、 ＞「I hoped to come here earlier, but I couldn’t」 ＝ 「I hoped that I could have come here earlier」 = 「I hoped to come here earlier」となり、これ以外の発想は考えられません。 I hoped to come here earlier, but I couldn’t. = I hoped that I could have come here earlier. = I hoped to come here earlier. は、 I hoped to come here earlier, but I couldn’t. = I hoped to come here earlier. ということになりますが、文章の意味を考えなくても、「but I couldn’t.」適っていないと思いますよー。 itkakumeiさんは『「to不定詞」を使った英文を「that節」を使った英文に書き換える』という書き換えの仕方を大学受験の参考書で目にしたことはありますかー？ あったら、そこんところを復習すれば、この書き換えで学ぶポイントは何かわかると思います♪ それではー♪

I hoped to have come. 「来たかったが、来なかった」 という文があります。 「hope」は、 「expect」「 intend」「 mean 」「wish」 で置き換えが可能だと思いますが、 「want」 は見かけない（手元にある辞書にもない）ので、少し事情が違うかなと、なんとなく思っていました。 秋田大学関連のサイトに Do you think you wanted to have started to learn English earlier ? という文をみつけました。秋田大学を疑うわけではありませんんが、「want」も同じ範疇に入れてよいかどうか、の質問です。 また、こういう文例から、「to have pp」は「過去」を表すというよりは「完了」を表すとみるのが合理的かどうかも、判断しかねています。

I love tracking and delivery confirmation, but signing in Chicago is problematic (work) and the post here is terrible to deal with...if a signature could be avoided but still have tracking and delivery confirmation I would really appreciate that. No problem if that isn't possible, but I figure it couldn't hurt to ask.

He did really well to pass the exam.I'm sure I couldn't have passed it. 彼は本当に頑張った。もしわたしなら無理だっただろう。 というような意味なのですが、これはなぜcouldn'tのあと完了形なんですか？couldn'tでもう過去形なのになぜさらにhaveをつけるんですか？
