他人のことを、ほんとうに知ることはできないとおもう。他人の心は直接に見えるものではない。 もし、できるだけほんとうのことをいうとしたら、一番よくみえる自分自身の心のありさまをいうしかないのではないかと思う。 それさえしようとしないものに、どうして他人のほんとうの姿をいうことができるだろうか。 と、私は解釈します。 小説を書く人ですか、このことばを残した人は？ だとすると、小説の中の登場人物にリアリティをもたせようと苦心されたのではないでしょうか。そして、それぞれの個性ある登場人物は、知人などをモデルにしたというより、結局のところ自分の心にある雛型からつくられているのだと、気付いたとか。 このことばが生まれたのは、そのようなきっかけがあったのではないかという気がします。憶測にすぎませんが、参考にしていただけたらうれしいです。

手紙を訳しているのですがどうしてもこの一文の意味がとれません。 If I did not tell you before, I did receive your other letters and a picture of yourself that you sent about 2years ago. 自分でも訳してみたのですが "もし私があなたに以前に言わなかったら、私は2年ほど前にあなたが送った他の手紙や写真を受け取りました"という意味不明の文章になってしまいます。 英語は苦手なので、どなたか翻訳お願いします！
