映画のタイトルと冠詞、同格表現とカンマ
細かい点で恐縮ですが、どなたかお教えください。 次の文章は映画「ラストサムライ」と 渡辺謙についての話で、ある英語研修会で配布された教材の一部です。 “The Last Samurai” is a spectacular adventure and Ken Watanabe is stunning as Katsumoto, a noble 18th century warrior. With this role, ken was nominated for a best supporting actor in the 76th Annual Academy Awards. Ken Watanabe, 44, never appeared in an American movie before the “The Last Samurai” but Ed Zwick, the director of the film said, “When Ken walked into the room, and within two minutes, we knew he was our man.” （以下、省略） 質問（１）第2段落の第1文にあるthe “The Last Samurai”の部分は、普通の表現でしょうか？ この場合theはとるべきではないか、と思うんですが。 質問（２）そのあとのbut Ed Zwick, the director of the film said,…の部分ですが、the directorの後にカンマが必要なのではないかと思うのですがいかがでしょうか？Ed Zwickを同格表現を用いて、この順番で説明するときはその前だけではなく、後ろにもカンマを打つべきだと今まで思っていたんですが。 よろしくお願いいたします。

(1)the "The Last Samurai"ですが、 theはなくてもいいような気もしますが、あっても構わないようにも思います。冠詞の感覚はネイティブにしかわかりづらいところも多いのですが、冠詞がないと概念がイメージされ、冠詞がつくと実体をイメージするような気がします。 the "The Last Samurai"は、「この」"ラストサムライ"で・・・で映画の存在を強調しているようには取れます。 "the The ～"の表現は著作権の表記なんかではよくある（Copyright © 2005 by the The American ××など）のですが、上のような使い方が適切かどうなのかはよくわかりません。 (2)カンマが必要だとすれば、the filmのあとでしょう。 but Ed Zwick, the director of the film, said,… でも"the film, said,"とカンマだらけで見苦しいし、読み間違いはしないので省略してもよいでしょう。カンマに関してのルールはかなり流動的だと思います。ちょうど日本語の読点(、)が人によって違うように。

（１）確かに、普通小文字のtheはとると思います。 間違いでは？ （２）は自信がありませんが、確かに同格表現でコンマが一方しか使われていないのはみたことがありません。改めて調べてみます。（ここで回答するのに間にあうかわかりませんが）

１） "The Last Samurai"というのが、映画のタイトルですから、勝手に"The"をとれません。 ２） カンマはあってもなくてもかまいません。この場合、読み間違えることがありませんので、つけなかったのでしょう。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 質問２について： そういうことですか。知りませんでした。 ただ、質問１は 「the “The Last Samurai”」の部分の最初のtheのことであって、“The Last Samurai”内のTheのことを言っているのでないのですが。

He had to train specifically for his sword fights. “It’s a difficult thing because Katsumoto carries two swords. It’s a very different style from Japanese one and the footwork was so difficult. I had to trust the stuntman and we had to exercise over and over to complete the scene.” He recalled the training that he learned just not hurt himself but not to hurt anyone else.
