動名詞が主語？sailは名詞？

escaping ～は分詞構文でしょうね。 ただ、特に慣用的でもないのに、 主語を無視した懸垂分詞っぽくはあります。 つまり、escape の主語は一般の人で、 can be の主語は sail Croatia なので。 sailing Croatia と動名詞句にした方がわかりやすいですが、 名詞 sail と同格的ととらえるしかないでしょう。 sailing Croatia なら、Croatia は動詞 sail の目的語ということになります。

回答ありがとうございます。おかげでかなりすっきりしました。回答を見て、sail Croatiaはsailing Croatia と本来動名詞句だけど、Escapingとingの形を使っているためここでは重複して体裁が悪くなるのを避けるためsail Croatiaとしていると自分は思ったのですがそういった解釈はどうでしょうか？
