The scientist looks for order in the appeara nces of narure by exploring likenesses. For order does not display itself of itself ;if it can be said to be there at all,it is not there for the mere looking. とくにbe there が「そこに存在する」なの か単に「存在する」なのか、またit is not there for the mere lookingをどのように訳せばいいのか、このforはなんなのか… 自分は「それは単なる外見の上では存在しない」という意味不明な訳になりました笑

The scientist looks for order in the appearances of narure by exploring such likenesses. For order does not display itself of itself ;if it can be said to be there at all,it is not there for the mere looking.

The aim of the physicianin the treatment of insanity is to bring the means at his command to bear, directly or indirectly , on the disordered nerve elemnt. But, in striving to do this, he soon learns with how many bodily organs and functionshe has really to do. to callmind a function of the brain may lead to much misapprehension, if it be thereby supposed that the brain is the only organ which is concerned in the function of mind. There is not an organ in the body which is not in intimate relation with the brain by means of its paths of nervous communication, which has not , so to speak, a special corresopondance with it through internuncial fibres, and which does not, therefore, affect more or less plainly and specially its[ist=the brain's] function as an organ of mind. It is not merely that a parpitating heart may cause anxiety and apprehension, or a disorderedliver[may cause] gloomy feelings, but there are good reasons to believe that eachorgan has its specific influence on the constituiton and function of mind; an influence not yet to be set forth scientifically., because it is exerted on that unconscious mental life which is the basis of all that we consciously feel and think. were the heart of one man to be placed in the body of another it would probably make no difference in the circulation of the blood, but it might make a real difference in the temper of his mind. so close is the physiological sympathy of parts in the commonwealth of the body that it is necessary in the physiological study of mind to regard it as a function of the whole organism, as complehending the whole bodily life.

Certainly it is not only in fields of physical science that there is room and need for progress. In social fields there is, if anything, even more room and need, not only for progress in the known branches of knowledge, but also for new sciences. This need could hardly be exaggerated. The very progress of physical science, which resulted the construction of atomic bombs, has placed before us the following social problem. We must either find a way to adjust international relations peacefully, or we may destroy civilization and possibly the human race along with it. On the other hand, it is equally clear that if world wars can be prevented, and all the new possibities are used for peaceful progress, a new age may well dawn. But in order to take advantage of such possibities, we must solve our social problems. 長い文章ですが和訳を教えてください。 よろしくお願いします!

数式などが入り混ざっているので、どうしてもできませんでした; できる方お願いします! It should be noted that the "best line" is not exactly determined. A visual estimate can often be made of a range of possible lines. From this, uncertainties in M and B can be estimated. Method of Averages. The constants in a linear equation may be calculated from only two pairs of values for the variables. In general, more than two pairs of values are available, and different values for the constants will be obtained when different experimental points are used in the calculation. One method for determining the constants by using all the experimental data is the method of averages. This method is based on the assumption that the correct values of the constants M and B are those which make the sum of the residuals equal zero. The residuals (Vi) are the differences between the values of Y calculated from the empirical equation and the experimentally determined values (Yi). In the case we are discussing, the residuals are (Vi)= MXi + B - Yi This assumption gives only one condition on the constants, and sos it is further assumed that if there are r constants, the residuals may be divided int r groups and ΣVi = 0 for each group. The groups are chosen to contain nearly the same number of experimental values, but it should be noted that different methods of choosing the groups will lead to different values for the constants. If the number of residuals in a group is K, the summation of Equation.
