大学入試の過去問です。 I was wondering how far I should trust him and I had an uncomfortable impression which he knew what I was thinking. この中で誤りを訂正するタスクで which→that が正解なんですが、なぜwhichではいけないのかがわかりません。 両方とも関係代名詞で合ってますか？ 『私はどこまで彼を信頼するべきなのかしらと思い、彼が私が考えていることを知っているという居心地の悪い印象を持っていた』 で訳は合っていますか？ 重ねての質問ですみません。 よろしくお願いします。

＞という印象 この訳に表れているように、同格の that です。 このあたり、日本語ではあいまいです。 the impression (which/that) I have on him 私が彼に持っている印象 the impression which/that prevails among us 私たちの間で広まっている印象 こういうのはそれぞれ、目的格・主格の関係代名詞です。 the impression that he knew it 彼がそれを知っていたという印象 the impression (which/that) he knew 彼が知っていた印象 印象自体を知っていた（目的格の関係代名詞） 何かを知っていたという印象 知っていたのは印象ではない こういう同格の that は接続詞、いわゆる that 節の that なので、 which には置き換えられません。 the fact that I know him 私が彼を知っているという事実 the fact (which/that) I know 私が知っている事実

日本語はあいまい、と申し上げました。 私たちの間で広まっている印象 the impression which/that prevails among us 私たちの間で（それが）広まっている（という）印象 the impression that it prevails among us 日本語ではこの違いが必ずしも明確ではありません。 私はこういうのは好きではないのですが、 同格の that の後は完全な文、 関係代名詞なら不完全 こういうのをよく高校レベルではやります。 今回の場合、impression that の後に、関係代名詞に置き換わった、 何か欠けている部分がない。 he knew what I was thinking 彼が～を知っている、という印象
