(1)I told him (2)how grateful I was to him (3)for having revived the people\'s hope during the darkest times の3つに分けて考えると分かりやすいと思います。 (2)の部分は通常の文章だと、 I was grateful to him. となるので、 (2)の部分は(1)と併せて 「どれだけ彼に感謝しているかを彼に語った」 となります。

こんにちは！ ＞＞＞I told him how grateful I was to him for having revived the people's hope during the darkest times. の文において「I was」の訳し方がわかりません。 「私は最も暗黒な時代の間、人々の望みを復活させたことに対して彼に感謝していることを彼に告げた」と訳しました。 ＞＞＞日本語のまとめ方だと思います。 どうしても「私が」を入れるならば、 「私は、最も暗黒な時代の間に彼が人々の望みを復活させたことに対して、私が（彼に）感謝していることを彼に告げた」 で何とかいけると思います。

ごめんなさい。答えじゃなく質問なのですが、（反則ですね、すみません。）“people”と、“’s”の間の“\”は、何ですか？ここ、1週間の間に3回見ました。どうして、“’s”の前に“\”がくっついてるの？ですか。ほんまにスイマセン、不思議で不思議でたまらなかったものですから・・・（何かの間違いかと思ってたのですが、回答者様もソレについて言及していなかったものですから、しかも回答者様の答えにも付いてるし・・・）宜しくお願い致します。

I suffer from very severe clinical depression and anxiety disorder. I am under a doctor’s care, but I still have times when these issues overwhelm me. Recently, my life has been more stressful than usual. I have tried to talk to my husband about my depression in the past, but he just tells me that I have a good life and I shouldn’t feel that way. I told him I don’t feel like I can talk to him about what is going on with me because of these responses. He assures me he is my biggest supporter and I can talk to him about anything. Bracewell told the people______effect a drought would have on the Great Plains.という穴埋めなのですが、この場合「何の効果」と言う意味から考えるとwhatが入ると思うのですが、「どんな効果」と考えるとhowが入るかと考えるのです。how とwhatは、名詞句を作る時に訳を考えるとどちらでもいいような感じがするときがあります。例えば、how many times やhow muchなどの場合はわかるのですが、この例文のような場合は、間違うことが多く、戸惑ってしまいます。何か明確に解る方法があるのでしょうか？教えてください。

DVDで英語の学習をしております。 刑事ドラマの一場面です。 彼のパートナーである刑事が行方不明になり、彼は、パートナーが失踪直前に担当した事件の容疑者とその弁護士を探りに向かいます。 そこで、彼らの、彼を挑発するかのような言葉にキレてしまい、容疑者を殴ってしまいます。 この件で上司に呼ばれます。 (A: 上司、B: 刑事) A: Dumb. That's what it was. What did you hope to accomplish? B: I told you, Cap'tn. It was a reaction. この It was a reaction. ですが、ここでは、 I didn't mean to do that kind of thing. とか It wasn't my intention. と同じような意味ととらえました。 ”殴るつもりはなかったけど、そうなってしまった” つまり、”成り行き上、ああなっただけさ”のような感じととらえましたが、いかがでしょうか？ お時間ありましたら、よろしくお願いします。
