come down on について
come down on について come down on は非難する、反対する、しかる となっていますが、 come down on the side of ,とかcome down on his side となると賛成する、～の立場にたつなど まったく逆のいみになるのはどうしてなのでしょうか。 （side がくると熟語なので仕方がない？ 覚えるしかないということ？） もしcome down on his opinion、way、policy、behavior 等だとどちらの意味になるのですか？ わかる方教えてください。

on the side of は「xxxを支持して」という意味なので、come down on + the side of ではなく、come down + on the side of と理解すべきです。come down in favor of とも言います。
