There’s no river without banks.But the Morava’s banks are as moveable as the river’s rising and sinking waters. No man-made barrier can safely rein them in. And bursting dams have come as sudden reminders of man’s vulnerability. 岸辺のない川はというものは存在しない。しかしモラバの岸辺は、川面の上下変動に伴って移動するのである。いかなる人工の堤防もそれを抑制することなど出来ない。そしてダムの決壊は人間の脆弱性を突然我々に突きつけるのだ。 Most of the time the powers of this river remain unnoticed,as long as its high waters lose themselves in the Morava’s wide wooded flood plain.But the regulars know that these woodlands will often take a footpath. 普段は、この川の威力に気を止めるものはいない。その川面が上昇しても、木々に覆われた広大な氾濫原に水が染み渡っている限りにおいては。 しかしここをよく訪れるものは、森の中の小道がなくなっているのにしばしば気づかされるのだ。 最後の文のtakeですが、こちらの他動詞の一番最初の意味にある http://eow.alc.co.jp/take/UTF-8/ ＞〔自分の領域・縄張り・体内に～を〕取り込む の意味がいいのでは。つまり、森の中に人が作った道が、洪水によって再び森に取り込まれてしまってなくなった、ということを意味していると思います。

but I'm going to bet there's hundreds of opportunitiesという言葉があるのですが、このthere's(there is)は、hundredsと複数になってるのでthere areの方が正しくないですか？ ネーティーブの方の文なので間違えるはずがないし、なにか文法的な理由があるのでしょうか？

こんにちは、いつもお世話になります。 「原仙作 著：英文法標準問題精講」より、 There can be no man of worth but has a piece of singularity. （P２２４） 語の品詞・用法のページに出てきた英文なので、butが関係代名詞という事が載っているだけで、和訳が載っていません。 興味深い英文なので、和訳を考えてみました。 piece of singularityだけは、「一風かわったところ、奇癖」と載っていました。 「一風かわったところはあっても、人するだけの価値はないだろう。」 で良いでしょうか？ 教えてください、よろしくお願い致します。
