こんにちは。7／16のご質問以来ですね。 ご質問１： ＜Ｉ like pizza. pizzaの前に冠詞は入りますか？又はpizzaが複数になったらおかしいですか？＜ １．不定冠詞aは入りません。 ２．複数形にもなりません。 ３．不定冠詞aや複数形が使われない、というのはこの名詞が「可算名詞」＝「数えられない名詞」ということです。 ４．理由は、このピザが「料理」の意味で使われているからです。素材で可算でも、料理になると不可算になるのです。 例： Many fishes are sailing. 「沢山の魚が泳いでいる」（可算） I like fish. 「魚料理が好き」（不可算） ５．なお、定冠詞theなら文脈により入ることもできます。 例： I like the pizza. 「そのピザが好き」 この場合は、誰か特定の人が作ったピザとか、特定の店のピザなど、「特定の」ピザを指す場合に使えます。 ご質問２： ＜Does he enjoy Sundays. ～onがついてなかったのですが何故ですか？＞ ここでは副詞句にならないからです。 １．onがついてon Sunday(s)になると、「（毎）日曜日に」という、時を表す副詞になります。 ２．しかし、この例文では、「日曜日」は名詞として、動詞enjoyの目的語になって「日曜日を楽しむ」という意味になります。 ３．目的語に前置詞は不要なのです。 ４．なお、ここでSundaysと複数になっているのは、毎週の日曜日をさしているからです。訳では「毎週日曜日は楽しんでいますか？」ぐらいの意味になります。 ご質問３： ＜He takes a subway to his college. his無しだと変ですか？＞ 変です。 １．理由は、collegeは普通名詞なので、単独では使えないからです。 ２．この場合、以下の語法が可能です。 a college「ある大学」不特定の１つの大学です。 the college「その大学」特定の大学をさしています。 his college「彼の大学」herなど他の人称でも結構です。 ABC College「ABC大学」固有名詞の場合は大文字です。 ご質問４： ＜She does her best. 同じくher無しだと変ですか？＞ 変です。 １．これはdo one’s best「～の最善を尽くす」というイディオムですが、oneには主語と同じ人称の所有格がきます。 ２．この例文は主語がSheなのでその所有格はherとなるのです。 以上ご参考までに。

文法的にはどれも可能でしょうね。 pizza は加算/不加算両方使えますから。でも I like pizza が圧倒的に自然と思います。 enjoy は他動詞で目的語が必要でそれが Sundays なので前置詞不要 take a subway to 場所 で場所は具体性がいるので his などの指示代名詞が必要と思います。 go to school などのタイプの慣用表現ではないでしょう。 She does best はへんですね。

直接話法→next 間接話法→the next 学生のころ、 next...→the next... tomorrow→the next day と機械的に変換すべし、と教えられました。 例えば、 He said, "I will meet her next Sunday." ↓[変換] He said (that) he would meet her the next Sunday ★どうして間接話法にするとthe nextになるのでしょうか？ nextとthe nextの違いがよくわかりません。 そもそもthe（定冠詞）は名詞を限定しているとわけで、その役割は、 (1)すでに説明済みである (2)後で説明するよ (3)１つしかないよ、 を示唆すると理解しています。 話法の転換するとtheがついたり、はずれたりするのは、何故でしょうか？ ニュアンスを含めて教えていただければと思います。 よろしくお願いします。

Taro remembered the cake in the kitchen and went to get it. 都立国際高校という高校入試問題です。 模範解答によれば、この文章の中で、”he must stay home to take care of his baby sister”のどこかに文法的な誤りがあるということなのですが、どこなのかよく判りません。全体が過去時制なので、ここだけ現在形っぽいということなんでしょうか。 正しくは、”he had to stay home to take care of his baby sister"ってことなのかなとも感じますが。何かほかに致命的な見落としがあるような気がします。すみません。教えてくださいよろしくお願いします。

飼い猫や、物語に出てくるキャラクターを指す時はheもしくはsheを使っても良いのでしょうか。 また、「このキャラクターの名前は何？」という事を画像付きで聞きたいのですが、 「What's his(her) name?」で変ではないでしょうか。
