はじめまして。 No.2で回答されている通りですが、簡単に補足します。 ご質問： ＜「human animal」というのがありますが、「animal」の意味と（存在）意義がわかりません。＞ １．humanは形容詞、animalは名詞なので、基本的にはhumanは形容詞として名詞animalを修飾しています。 ２．「人間」は「動物」の一種で、「動物」に含まれていますから、human＜animalの関係が成り立ちます。 ３．animalの中でも、「人間」という種族だと特定したのが、human animalという言い方になります。つまり、humanという形容詞は、animalという総体的な名詞をより具体化しているのです。 ４．意味は「人間という動物」になり、同格のような訳し方になります。 ５．同じような、「（形容詞＋名詞）＝（形容詞＜名詞）→（同格の訳）」の用法は他にも見られます。 例： best friend「最高の、友達」→「親友」 high school「高等の、学校」→「高等学校」 human being「人間という、生物」→「人間」 human kind「人間という、種族」→「人間」 ６．ご質問文の訳し方は正確には （直訳）「～基本的には、人間という、同じ動物の種類であるが」 となり、これが抄訳のような （抄訳）「基本的には人間と言う同一種族であるが」 となっているのです。 以上ご参考までに。
