whether ～ or not, (～であろうとなかろうと) という言い回しがありますので、 Regardless ofを取ってwhether …で通じると思います。 whether節が長いときはwhether or not～になったりします。 例) Whether we win or lose, we must play fairly. 二つあります。 (1) You need not give it back to me. 上記の文の意味が分かりません。訳していただけると助かります。 (2)穴埋め問題です。 Do I have to visit Mr. Smith with you? No, you don't have to visit him with me. You ( ) not go out. 上記の( )内を need としたのですが、解答では must になっていました。 自分では両方あっているような気がするのですが、どう区別をつけたらいいのでしょう。 教えてください。

英会話学校に通っているものですが、先日こんなことがあったので質問させて下さい。 テキストに入る前に、先生（外国人）とおしゃべりしてたら、ふざけて私の電子辞書を隠したんです。それで先生が こういう時は何て言うの？って聞いたので、私は “Please give it back to me” と、答えました。すると先生が “Will you give it back to me pretty please ？” と、教えてくれたのです。 女の子や小さい子がつかうと教えてくれたのですが、、、 日本語だと、どういうニュアンスになるのか知りたいです。 どなたか教えていただけないでしょうか。

- must notを過去や未来で
mustはheve toとほぼ同義で、mustでは過去や未来は表せないので have toで代用しますよね。 しかし、must notはdon't have toに置き換えられませんが、過去や未来はどうやって表すのでしょうか？ 例えば 次の文です。 “You must give him some money.”は未来にすると “You will have to give him some money.”に なりますが、“You must not give him any money.” は未来にするとどうなるでしょうか？
