英語 なぜhimはだめなのですか?

1)by himself 2)by him どちらも文法的には正しいです。目的格のhimにする、も合っています。 ただし、この設問の場合は、文の意味で判断して正解は1)himselfになります。 Weren’t you surprised that he cut his hair by himself? 髪を短くした人本人がカットした場合です。これが大正解。一方: Weren’t you surprised that he cut his hair by him? 髪を短くした彼<ではないもう一人の彼>がカットした場合、になりますが、この設問だけでは二番目の彼に当たる人がいません。誰の事を指して<彼>としたのか分からず不自然です。 ですので大正解の1)だけが残ります。
