シェークスピアのロミオとジュリエットより。 ロミオがつらい時は時が過ぎるのがゆっくりだ。みたいな事を言って、BENVOLIOが、何がつらくて時間がゆっくり過ぎるんですか？みたいな質問をして、それに対する返答として、ロミオがこう答えます。 Not having that which, having, makes them short. だいたい意味としては、I don’t have the thing that makes time fly（時間が早く過ぎさせさせるものを持ち合わせていない。）とわかりますが、（現代語訳を↓で読んだので、、。） http://nfs.sparknotes.com/romeojuliet/page_20.html 基本的な知識として、what=the thing that=that whichなので、原文が下記のようだったら、 Not having that which makes them short.か、Not having the thing that makes them short 「ふ～ん」と思う程度なのですが、２個目のhavingがあるばっかりに、良く分かりません。　２個目のhavingはどのような役割で存在しているのでしょうか？　無しではダメでしょうか？ よろしくお願い致します。.

難しい質問です。 まあ、比較すれば、三島由紀夫の小説を、外国人がパーフェクトに理解してないような物じゃないですか。
