英語の正誤問題の答えに納得がいきません
ある問題集に次の正誤問題がありました。 次の4つから誤っている箇所を一つ指摘せよ。 ア.(While) you are typing, your elbows should イ.(be bent) about 90 degrees and ウ.(to rest) on something when エ.(not in use). 答えはウで、andによってrestはshouldとつながっているので、to restではなくrestなんだそうです。 ですが、restは他動詞なのだからrestedじゃないか、と僕は思いました。 僕の考えは合っているでしょうか。回答をお願いします。

No.3で回答したものです。elbowsに対して一方では他動詞（be bent)、他方では自動詞（rest)を使うことついては、私が文を書くのであれば少なくとも同じ文中では統一すると思います。 貴方がまだ納得がいかないというのであれば、問題集の出版社なり作者にメールなりで率直に疑問をぶつけてもいいかと思います。良心的なところであれば返答してくれると思います。

rest には自動詞「休む」，他動詞「休ませる」両方あります。 ここは「休ませる」というより，「置く」という感じだと思います。 He rested his arm on the table. のように用いられます。 一方，自動詞の場合，ものが主語だと rest on ～で「～に置かれる」という感覚です。お ものが自分で休むわけじゃない，と考えると他動詞になりますが， 英語の自動詞は The door opens. というと自動ドアとは限らず（自動にしても人がのるから開く） 誰かが開ける結果を表すことができます。 店が10時に開く。 これを人が開けるからと The shop is opened とするより， The shop opens at ten. となるのは日本語でもわかると思います。 肘を置いておくべきという意味合いを elbows should rest on ～というふうに自動詞で表現することが多いです。 (be) rested という受身もまったく用いられないわけではないと思います。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 丁寧な解説をありがとうございます。ただ、No,3様も仰る通り、bendも自動詞として用いてもよいと分かりました。your elbows should be bentとbentを過去分詞にしてelbowを受身の対象としているのに、この後でrestを自動詞にしelbowを主語扱いするのは少し納得がいきません。これについてもご回答をお願いします。

解説が正しいです。 your elbows should rest で「肘が休むべき」となります。自動詞です。 他動詞「休ませるべき」なら you should rest your elbow となります。 過去分詞を使うなら your elbow should be rested となります。「休まされるべき」となります。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 restが自動詞であるならば、解答番号３番様も仰る通り、bendも自動詞で使えばよかったのではないでしょうか。bendを過去分詞にしelbowを受身の対象としたのに、なぜrestは自動詞として使うのでしょうか。

お願いします。 つぎの4つの文の中から正しい英文1つを選ぶ問題です。 1.He left from Tokyo for Hokkaido. 2.Did you enjoy yourself at the drama? 3.Will you marry with me? 4.Please answer to my question. 1と3が間違っているのはわかります。 2を調べました。 Did you enjoy yourself in the drama? であれば正しいように思います。 4のanswerは自動詞、他動詞どちらにもなるので 4が正しい文であると思うのですがどうでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 bendにも自動詞の用法があったとは知りませんでした。私は、your elbows should be bentとelbowsをbendの目的語と考えて受身にしているので当然restの目的語でもあるだろう、と考え正しい回答はbe restedではないか、と思いました。 restを自動詞と考えるならelbowsは主語となりますが、なぜelbowsをbendでは目的語、restでは主語と用法を分けるのかがいまいち納得できません。これについてはどう思われますか。
