A is a competitive material 競争的な原料 ※「匹敵する」というような意味合いですが、後半の部分から判断すると「次善の」をひいき目に表現しているようです。 for parts B Bの部品のための leading to ～に到る ※「～を作る」が通じやすい訳になります。 a lower products C 下級の製品C 『Aは部品Bを作り、（それによって）下級製品Cを作るための次善の原料です。』

２文あるのですが、 １.World leaders are once again set to discuss global warming. →世界の各国首脳は再び地球温暖化の討論を始めようとしている。 とあるのですが、訳に「始めようとしている」とあるのに、何故are set toなのでしょうか？？ このsetは受動態ですよね？？だとすると意味は着手されているとかに厳密にいうとなると思うのですが、どなたか教えて下さい。 ２．the leading industrialized nation で、「先進工業国」と訳されているのですが、 「the leading（形容詞）」→「 industrialized （過去分詞）」→「nation（名詞）」の語順てありえますか？ というのは、もし、 industrialized を上記の通り過去分詞ととらえるのならば、the leading industrialized、と２語以上の語群がnationを修飾しているので、本来名詞の後ろにくっつけないとだめだと思うのです。だとしたらこの句は分詞ではないのでしょうか。 どのように解釈すればいいのでしょう。 よろしくお願いいたします。
