NHKWORLD TPP

The agreements include import tariff cuts in 20 areas, such as investment and intellectual property rights. Officials of those countries' governments will meet again in December to decide on a schedule for next year's talks.

http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/include

Though the details must still be negotiated, both the White House and Congressional Democrats are leaning heavily toward a combination similar to the one the administration turned to in 2001 as a recession-fighting tool. It would include a one-time tax rebate for individuals and an immediate expansion in the deductions that businesses take for investment in equipment. >an immediate expansion in the deductions that businesses take for investment in equipment http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/19/washington/19fiscal.html?ex=1358398800&en=1a3e99eb5ac3a031&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss expansion in the deductionsがうまく訳せません。 違うサイトで同じところなので、同じことを言っているはずですが >an immediate expansion in the deductions businesses write down for investment in equipment http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20080119/NEWS/801190700/-1/RSS01 企業が「設備投資に関して記帳した控除額」の速やかな範囲の拡大 でしょうか。 you could write down the investment とwrite downは動詞で使われ write-down of investmentsのようにwrite-downは名詞だと思いますが >It would include a one-time tax rebate for individuals and an immediate expansion in the deductions businesses write-down for investment in equipment.

His comments echo the tone adopted by Wen Jiabao, premier, last week when he admitted the government had some work to do but that he wanted to create an envIronment that encouraged investment. Mr Wen and other officials have highlighted official statistics that show foreign direct investment(FDI) in China has been growing rapidly this year and is expected to exceed $100bn this year, up from around $90bn last year. But 60 per cent of foreign inveatment to China last yaer came through Hong Kong and analysts say these figures provide little guidance about the international appetite for investing in China.

Taliban Step Toward Afghan Peace Talks Is Hailed by U.S. By MATTHEW ROSENBERG and ALISSA J. RUBIN WASHINGTON — The Taliban signaled a breakthrough in efforts to start Afghan peace negotiations on Tuesday, announcing the opening of a political office in Qatar and a new readiness to talk with American and Afghan officials, who said in turn that they would travel to meet insurgent negotiators there within days. If the talks begin, they will be a significant step in peace efforts that have been locked in an impasse for nearly 18 months, after the Taliban walked out and accused the United States of negotiating in bad faith. American officials have long pushed for such talks, believing them crucial to stabilizing Afghanistan after the 2014 Western military withdrawal. But the Taliban may have other goals in moving ahead. Their language made clear that they sought to be dealt with as a legitimate political force with a long-term role to play beyond the insurgency. In that sense, in addition to aiding in talks, the actual opening of their office in Qatar — nearly a year and a half after initial plans to open it were announced and then soon after suspended — could be seen as a signal that the Taliban’s ultimate aim is recognition as an alternative to the Western-backed government of President Hamid Karzai. By agreeing to negotiations, the Taliban can “come out in the open, engage the rest of the region as legitimate actors, and it will be very difficult to prevent that when we recognize the office and are talking to the office,” said Vali Nasr, a former State Department official who is the dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

  • Chinalco reserved the right to make a full offer

    >In announcing their investment in Rio Tinto, Chinalco and Alcoa reserved the right to make a full offer within the next six months. But mining industry specialists said they doubted that the Chinese company would do so. The world’s biggest mining company, BHP Billiton, must decide by Wednesday whether it will proceed with a bid for a rival, the Rio Tinto Group, after China intervened with a strategic investment that could sharply increase the price of what would be one of the biggest mergers in corporate history. On Friday, the Aluminum Corporation of China, which is owned by the government and known as Chinalco, joined the Aluminum Company of America, or Alcoa, in paying $14 billion for 12 percent of Rio Tinto. Chinalco contributed $12.8 billion to the Rio Tinto investment. Chinalco’s investment was widely interpreted as a blocking move and another indication that China was hostile to the merger. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/05/business/worldbusiness/05mine.html?_r=1&oref=slogin&ref=business&pagewanted=print

The following graph shows an importing country's supply-demand diagram for a product and an export-import diagram. The curves with superscript z are the curves when a tariff is levied. The country has two suppliers. In the beginning, it imposes a tariff on both suppliers, the corresponding variables are marked with a z. Then it discriminates against one of the suppliers, meaning that it lifts the tariff on imports of the other supplier because it has signed an FTA with this country. The variables of the supplier with which the country signs a free trade agreement are marked with a hat, the variables of the supplier against which the country discriminates are marked with a tilde. The bar values are values related to total exports. diagramは添付しました。 1) Where do you see the tariff revenue in the supply-demand diagram and in the export-import diagram before the FTA is signed? Briefly explain. 2) Where do you see the tariff revenue in the supply-demand diagram and in the export-import diagram after the FTA is signed? FTAを締結する前の価格は、Pzのため関税収入はDz-Szでthe supply-demand diagramでは、c+e+fになるのはわかるのですが、どうしてthe export-import diagramでは、i+k+l+mになるのでしょうか?world marketのほうの関税収入の求め方が全く分からないです。

"The idea, that has been suggested by some economists, is that the trade deficit is so large that if foreigners decide to remove their U.S. assets then the dollar will "crash" (fall in value fast), U.S. interest rates will increase fast and the U.S. will see investment falling so fast that the U.S. might see a severe recession or depression in the economy."
