If ～ were to... はご存じかと思いますが、文法的には「仮定法未来」に分類され、同じ仮定法未来の表現のIf ～ should...（もし万一～なら）よりも実際に起こる可能性が極めて低い事柄についての仮定を述べる時に使われるとされています。一般的な訳し方は、「もし～するようなことがあれば」となります。 Ex If all the volcanoes in Japan were to erupt, our life would be ruined. （もし日本の全ての火山が噴火するようなことがあれば、私達の生活は破滅するだろう。） また「たとえ～ということがあっても」と訳す場合もあります。 Ex If the sun were to rise in the west, he would not change his mind. （たとえ太陽が西から昇るようなことがあっても、彼は決心を変えないだろう。） ご参考になればと思います。

英語の文法について質問です。 仮定法未来と、条件節のifの使い方の違いが分かりません。どんな時に使えばよいのか…。 If S should～のときは実現可能性が１%程度（ほぼあり得ない）のときに使いますが、If S were to～のときに混乱してしまいます。were toでは実現可能性は考慮せずに「とりあえず、もし～としたら…」ということを言っているのですよね？それでしたら、条件節のifの文と、伝える趣旨は何ら変わりないように思えるのですが… 例えば、 If you were to win the lottery, what would you buy with the money？ 「宝くじに当たったら、そのお金で何を買う？」 If he were to do so, I would be angry. 「もし彼がそんなことをしたら、私は怒るだろう」 こちらが仮定法未来（条件節にwere to、主節に助動詞の過去形）で、 If it rains tomorrow, I will stay at home. 「もし雨が降ったら、私は家にいるよ」 If I need any help, I'll call you. 「助けが必要な場合は、あなたに電話をするよ」 こちらが条件節。 この使い分けはどういったものなのでしょうか？どちらの用法も使えるといったことはないのですか？ 条件節を用いた場合は、「その条件のときには必ず○○する」といった意味合いなのでしょうか……？ 分かる方いらっしゃいましたら、よろしくお願いいたします。

仮定法が時制の一致を受けないのは何故ですか？ He said to me, "If you should fail in getting a job, what would you do?"を間接話法に直したときに、He asked me what would you do if you should fail in getting a job.と、時制の一致を受けないのかが分かりません。過去でした仮定なのだから時制の一致を受けてもよさそうだと思うのですが、どなたか回答宜しくお願いいたします。
