The Mysterious Use of Present Tense in "Master, I Bring a Gift"
- In the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay, the protagonist Dexter, who is a serial killer working as a forensic technician, confronts his colleague Vince after finding his own personal belonging among the evidence collected from a crime scene.
- When Dexter presents Vince with a white paper bag and says, "Master, I bring a gift," it raises the question of why the present tense is used in this context.
- While the use of present tense in historical facts, quotations, newspaper headlines, or dramatic present is common, its use here seems unconventional. The reason behind this usage remains a mystery.

- My dog seemed to have understood what I ...
what 以降なのですが、 My dog seemed to have understood what I had said. It seemed that my dog had understood what I had said. で正しいですか? それとも、一番目の文は have understood に合わせて what I have said にするのでしょうか? (でも、そうすると seemed の時制には合わないですよね・・・?)

ローマ字です(日本語はコピー・アンド・ペースト タイプできないので) Darekaga aruieno zumen wo eturan shini shiyakusho kadokokani kitatokino kaiwadesu A: zumen wo minikitahito B: shiyakusho no hito <the conversation> B: I need some photo ID. B: I need some photo ID. You can have it back when you return the plants(1). A: A photocoier ? B: 4th floor, 50 cents per a page. You need to have these back by closing time, today(2). I am familiar with the first "have" in the sentence (1). It means possession. On the other hand, "have" in the sentence (2) seems to be able to be replaced with bring. This was confusing for me when I listened first time. Is it spoken often, like (2)? Or if I am wrong, correct me!

- 時制の一致
He has just said that trial (is going to) continue tomorrow at 9AM. この文章で、( )内が時制の一致を受けずに現在形になっています。現在の状況(これから裁判を続ける)がわかるのですが、このように現在の状況がわかりやすいように、時制の一致を無視する場合があると知りました。 でもそうなると、毎回無視しなくてはいけなくなるのでは?と思ってしまいます。(I thought he would like it.ではなくて、I thought he will like it.など) また、他でこういった例文を探したところ、I said.....という文でした。 これは動詞がsayのときに起こりすいのでしょうか? 上にあげた文のように現在完了の文の時に、時制の一致はそもそも起きるのでしょうか? おきるとすると、その場合は、過去に変換されるのでしょうか?それとも文意に従うのでしょうか? 例: I have told you that he didn't like me. (時制の一致??) のようになるかと思うのですが。。 よろしくお願いします。

- all I am 〜の解釈について
添付ファイル文章 let me tell you what I could not utter last time, what I dared not say, all I am suffering and have been for so long! の解釈に関する質問です。 all I am suffering and have been for so long! の部分ですが、 all I am suffering and have been (suffering)for so long!
