おはようございます。 「もし国家が文明化の状況において、無知で自由でありたいと願うなら、それはこれまでにあり得なかったこと、そして今後もあり得ないことを期待している。」 という感じでしょうか。 後半部分を直訳すれば、「かつてなかったこと、そしてこれからもないであろうことをを期待している。」という感じかと思います。

My brain is as good as it ever was, and will probably remain so for a very long time yet, but my energy is not and cannot be what it was, and it will gradually decline. 全体の訳はなんとなくわかるのですが、ところどころわからないところがあります。 この文のso for a very long time長い間とういのは分かるのですが、soというのは、「とても」と訳せばいいのでしょうか？ cannot beというのは、どのように訳せばいいですか？ will beのような形も見ます。このような場合beの後ろは補語をつければいいのでしょうか？ 教えてください。
