英文法についていくつか。
細かいことですが、気になったので教えてください。 1. The novel besed on fact. onとfactの間にtheは入りませんが、入れたら間違いで しょうか?また、名詞の前に冠詞がつくものとつかな いものの見分けはどのようにすればよいのでしょうか? 2. on account of, due to, owing to この三つの使い方の違いを教えてください。 3. at any cost = at all costs anyの後は単数しか来ないのでしたっけ? 4. try~ing, try toの違いを教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。

次の3つの英文法について解説していただけるとありがたいです。 1.He was dressed in an old coat that had seen better days. 正解:彼は使い古された上着を着ていた。 私:「彼は古きよき日の懐かしい上着を着ていた」と訳してしまいました。 have seen better days は以前は裕福だった、という熟語になっていましたが、これを「使い古された」と訳すのは、どういうところからきているのでしょうか? 2. We drove on to the hotel from whose balcony we could look down at the town. 正解:私たちはバルコニーから町を見渡せるホテルまで車で行った。 私:選択肢の中に「私たちは町でバルコニーを見渡せるホテルへ車で行った」とあり、文法的にいくとこっちでも良さそう(ただし、文からいけば、正解のほうがしっくりいきます)と思ったのですが、どのような違いがあるのでしょうか。 drove につく「on」と look downの後の「at」はなくてもよいのではないでしょうか。 3. She was almost run over by a car. 正解:彼女はもう少しで車にひかれそうになった。 私:選択肢に「彼女はほとんど全身を車にひかれてしまった」というのと迷いました。almostは「ほとんど」がよく使われる意味であり、もう少しで---するところ、という意味との違いはどこに出てくるのでしょうか。 以上3点、もしよろしければおしえて下さい。

英文解釈の勉強のため、とある契約書を読んでいますが、以下の文の解釈で悩んでおります。 The fact that xxxx may at any time not rely on any of these Conditions shall not be construed as a waiver of its right to rely on any of the said conditions subsequently. xxxxが、いかなる時もこれらの条項に依存することはできないという事実は、後に続く条項に依存する権利の放棄とはみなされない。 で大丈夫ですか?それとも、mayとnotの間に、"at any time"が入っているので、いかなる時もrely onしないこともできるんだよ、という意味になりますか?
