関係代名詞には2つの用法があります。 限定用法と継続用法です。 限定用法とは、文字通り限定を行います。 例 I like a boy who works hard. 継続用法は、先行詞の内容を説明します。 例 I like the boy, who works hard 用法上のおおきな違いは、 コンマの有無です。 さて、限定用法がすべての関係代名詞にあるのに対して、継続用法は. who,which,whem whereにしかありません。 後質問の用例は、継続用法です。 したがって thatは使えません。 継続用法のある whichにする必要があります。 継続用法では, thatは使えないと覚えて於いてください。 (補足説明、 thatには、名詞節を導く使い方等他の用法があり、 継続用法で thatを使うと意味がわからなくなるからで、 whichやwhoなどではその心配がすくなくなるので、 thatは使えません)

「私が１０年前に訪れた都市」をそれぞれ英文にすると 関係代名詞：The sity which I visited ten years ago. 関係副詞：The sity where I went ten years sgo. 解説に下記のように書かれていました。 visitは他動詞なのでvisit the sityという形をとる。 それに対してgoは自動詞なのでgo to the sity,go thereという形になる。 関係副詞見分け方は２つの文に分けて前置詞を伴えば関係副詞だと思っているので、この解説が混乱を招いてしまいました。 この解説の意味を教えて頂きたいのと、関係副詞で使う単語は自動詞が多いのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします！！
