夢は願うものではなく、叶えるものだ。を英語にすると？
自分で作ってみました。 Dreams are not something that you wish, but something that you grant to yourself. 文法に偏った表現になってしまっていますが、この文章で日本人／外人に通じますか？ また、こういう表現はいいよ というのがあれば教えてください。

海外在住ですが、通じると思いますよ。 私的にはNo.2さんの表現も良さげかと思います。 wishの後にはforを入れた方がしっくりきます。 簡単なものだと Dreams are not for wishing, but for granting. でも充分通じます。

私なら・・ Don't just wish but DO make it happen. でいかがでしょうか。これで完結なんですが、もし付け加えるなら That's what a dream is. とか That's the way you dream. とかくっつけましょうか。

Grantだとはっきり言って分からない人がいるでしょう。 意味的には許可するというほうが強いので。 もっと直接的な表現のほうが分かってもらえると思います。 Take だとかGetだのの表現をアメリカ人は好みます。 Dreams are not something to wish for;dreams are something to work for. ちなみに参考URLはDreamに関する抜粋でそのページの一番下のQuoteが今回の意味合いに近いでしょう。

テキストに載っていた英語の文章がよく分かりません。 タイトルが、「車の影響について」です。 載っていた文章の男の方の文章をそのまま載せさせていただきます。 --------------------- But don't you think of the impact to the environment of driving? １．I mean, all the gas and oil that you burn to drive. Longmanで調べたのですが、hopeとwishの使い分けは Wish: Use wish to talk about things that are not true, not possible Hope: Use hope to talk about things that could happen, could have happened, or could be true ということですので、起こりそうor起こりうる場合はhope 起こりそうにない場合はwishでいいのでしょうか？ ということは I wish you will win the game. などの表現では、「試合に勝つのを願っています」というようなポジティブな表現にはならないということでしょうか? 使い分けを間違えると相手に嫌な印象を与えそうで怖いです 実際に英語の会話に触れている人の意見をいただけたらと思います
