I'm hoping this post brings everyone who reads this here blog up to speed on a couple big things that are happening in my life, should they not otherwise be in 5th gear. 後半文章で(バイク)関係に触れていると言うことを勘案して、変速ギヤに関連しての言葉を使いたかったのかと。 音楽関係なら、これが「up tempo」とか何とかかんとか、 コンピューター通信関係なら「超高速光ファイバー」とか何とか、、、 5th gear - top gear - 最高速で走っている should they not be in 5th gear 「otherwise」は有ってもなくても良いのかな。 この人物は「should they not otherwise be in 5th gear.」で「このブログ読者がその人生で何時もトップスピードを出して読み飛ばす様な人は別にして」→「そんなに急いでる人でなければ」→「格別急いでいない人なら、マー、私の今の生活に起きている2~3の事柄について書いているので読んでみてよ」みたいな感じではないでしょうか? 想像力の問題かも知れません、違ってたらご免!

早速の回答有難うございます。なるほど、という感じです。 質問箇所は、仮定的な意味で、かつ"otherwise"にはあまり意味がない（慣習的な表現で入っているだけ）と言ったところでしょうか。"5th gear"がバイクに引っ掛けているのは想像していましたが、を「忙しい、急いでいる」のニュアンスは思いつきませんでした。 またこの段落全体の"hope ... bring ~ up to speed"は「伝わったらなぁ」→「読んでみてよ」といったニュアンスになるというところでしょうか。大変参考になりました。
