not only～but alsoと前置詞の位置関係
いつもお世話になっています。 「私は英語だけではなく中国語にも興味がある」の英訳である I am interested not only in English but also in Chinese. について質問があります。 上の文を、I am interested in not only English but also Chinese.と書いたところ、参考書には、その語順は一般的ではない、と書かれていました。一般的ではない理由までは書いていなかったので、なぜ一般的でないのか、あるいはどのように判断すれば正しい語順になるのかということが分かりません。 どなたかご教授ください。

前置詞＋名詞の結びつきがより強いからです。 both in English and in French が普通で、 in both English and French が何となくおかしいと日本人でも感じられるとするなら、それと同じ構造の上記の文章がおかしいというのも、自然なことです。

ｏｎｌｙもａｌｓｏも副詞なので、前置詞句より前にきます。I did it just for you. が正しく I did it for just you. は変と同じです。

考え方としてはnot only～but alsoの部分をなくしても文が成立するか否かで考えればよいはずです。 I am interested not only in English but also in Chinese.ではinterestedは形容詞ですから途中で切ってI am interested.でも文法の規則から言えば文として成り立ちます。（意味からするとおかしいですけどね） I am interested in not only English but also Chinese.の場合で同じようにnot only～but alsoの部分をなくすとI am interested in.になってしまいます。これでは文法上は文として成立しませんよね。 一般的でないというのは意味を汲み取るのは普通の人なら可能であるだろうが文法上はおかしいので避けたほうが良いということでしょう。 こういうことは英語に限らず言語ではよくあるので難しいですよね。

辞書では，not only ～ but (also) というように，also に（ ）が付いています。 知人の外国人は，「絶対にnot only ～ but also なんて言わない。not only ～ but だけ。」と言います。 私が学校で習った記憶では，also は（ ）付きではなく，必ず not only ～ but also となっていました。 （ ）が付いているのは，どちらでもよいという意味なのでしょうか。 それとも，知人が言っていることが正しいのでしょうか。
