英文解釈

【How can I get copies of this report made?】 【この報告書のコピーをとるのはどうすればよいですか】 上記の英文のmadeにはどういう意味があるのでしょうか？無くても問題ないような気がするのですがどうですか？宜しくお願いします！

日本語で「コピー」と考えていると，「コピーを取る」＝get copiesでいいじゃないか，となりそうですが，copyにはいろいろな意味がありますので気を付けましょう。 How can I get copies of this report? とすると，もうすでに報告書のコピーが何十部だか何百部だか印刷し終わっていて，自分も何部か欲しいのだが，どこにいけば手に入るのか，と尋ねているようなニュアンスがあります。 そうではなくて，これから複写物を作ろうというわけですから，使役の動詞を使って，get(V)＋copies of this report(O)＋made(C)とするわけです。 makeが過去分詞になっていますので，受身の意味になり， 「どうやったら，copies of this reportが作られている（という状態にする）ことができますか」ということです。

　make a copy で「コピーをとる」という意味です。 　get 目的語＋過去分詞で，have 目的語＋過去分詞と同じ「～してもらう」という使役の意味になります。 　しかし，ここでは特に使役の意味があるわけではなく，get 目的語＋形容詞で「OをCの状態にする」というSVOCの形になる，形容詞の部分が過去分詞になったのでしょう。make a copy → a copy is made という受動関係が get a copy ... made に表れているのです。 　すなわち，「この報告書のコピーを取られる状態にする」というのが直訳になります。
