I know 認める however I don't really understand it here... I wish my Japanese was better. Of course I looked in the dictionary and you are 100% correct - it's just I can't feel the meaning..

I'm going to use your translation however I'll decide whether to use 受け入れる or 認める later.

裁判官は承知（/了知）しつつ虚偽の自白を受け入れる。

Well, I just got a better understanding of 承知 and 了知... I think 了知 would be a better fit here.

I love your translation however I'm leaning to the other grammar. I wish I was more fluent so I could feel the nuance.
