whicheverの使い方
Consumers tend to purchase store brands of yogurt, but purchase whichever brand of milk is least expensive. この文で、 Consumers tend to purchase store brands of yogurt, but purchase the brand of milk whichever is least expensive. とはならないのでしょうか。意味が変わりますか？ 最初の文のwhicheverは代名詞でいいのでしょうか。

#1です。 wind-skywindさんの回答を見て、自分の間違いに気が付きました。謹んで訂正します。 wicheverは名詞を先行詞として取らないので、 the brand of milk whichever や前の回答で書いたany brand of milk whicheverとはならないですね。汗

大先生方のご回答がありますので投稿を躊躇しましたが、自身の勉強の機会と考えて出しゃばることをお許し下さい。 but以下だけを考えます。 元の文ではwhichever以下全体で名詞節を作っており、その意味は、 「しかし、どちらのブランドのミルクであれ、一番安いミルクを買う」 となるのでは・・・。 これに対して、あなたが示された文では、whichever以下全体で譲歩を表す副詞節を作られており、その意味は、 「しかし、どれが一番安かろうが、そのブランドのミルクを買います」 となるのでは・・・。 最後に、 ＞最初の文のwhicheverは代名詞でいいのでしょうか。 とありますが、このwhicheverは文法的には関係形容詞というのではないか・・・と思います。どうでもよいような気も致しますが。 参考になりましたら。

but purchase the brand of milk whichever is least expensive. この言い方でも良いように思うのですが、少し違和感があります。 whichever is least expensive と「一番安ければどれでも」と言っているのにthe brandと決めつけていること。これがthe brand of milk which is the least expensive. なら良いのですがそれだと前の文の置き換えにならない。 any brand of milk whichever is least expensive. なら良いかと思います。 意味としては同じと思います。またwhicheverは代名詞です。最初の文を訳すと、 「消費者は店のブランドおヨーグルトを購入する傾向があるが、ミルクに関してはどちらのブランドでも一番安いものを購入する傾向がある。」 ここで、どちらのブランドと言っているのは恐らくは、イオンのミルクのような店のブランドと、森永のミルクのようなメーカーのブランドの比較でしょう。

(2)The purpose of it is to give expression～.（＝Its purpose is to give expression～.） になり、このことから、本文以外にも、もう2パターンの文が作れます。 of which the purpose is to give expression～. whose(=Its) purpose is to give expression～. 形を変えたら、納得いくのですが、本文は名+名となっていて変だなと感じました。

わからない表現があります。 タイトルがそれです。 検索してみたところ (1)She likes it least of all. 「彼女はそれが最もきらいです」 という表現があり、これを私は [She likes it]という度合いがすべてのうち最も少ない つまり「それが好きな度合いが一番少ない」＝「それが最も嫌い」という解釈をしました。 われながら納得できたので 上記のことを踏え goo辞書に (2)He won't listen to anyone, least of all to me. というのがあったので それを「彼は誰の話でも聞く、特に私のは」と和訳しました。 しかし正しくは「彼は誰にも耳を貸さない。とりわけ私には」 というものでした。 least of all 単体で見ると「とりわけ」とか「特に」などの表現らしいんですが だとすると(2)の文は納得なんですが、(1)の文をどう解釈していいかわかりません。 でも(1)の文の解釈の仕方だと(2)の文が今度はわからなくなる… どこに着目して訳せばいいんでしょうか？ (2)の文はひょっとして「，（カンマ）」が解釈の手がかりを握ってるんでしょうか？ least of allはどんなニュアンスでつかうものなんでしょうか？ to があるのとないのとではニュアンスに大きな変化があるんでしょうか？ 純粋に「とりわけ」「特に」という日本語訳ではないですよね？ 回答いただければ助かります。

(1)least of allは副詞なんでしょうか？ (2)副詞が修飾する範囲は「動詞」のみなのか「助動詞＋動詞」なのか？ ・She likes it least of all. は「彼女はそれが最も好きではないです」ですよね？ この文はleast of allがlikesを修飾していると解釈しました。 二つ目の ・He won't listen least of all to me.の訳があいまいです。 このときleast of allはlistenのみを修飾しているんでしょうか、それともwon't listenを修飾しているんでしょうか？ 回答いただければ助かります。
