文法がよくわかりません！
"So he went to the one person he knew would be happy to help him avoid." happy to help him avoidの箇所がよくわからないので、教えてほしいですm(__)m

"happy to help him avoid" avoidの後に何か抜けていませんでしょうか？itでも何でも。 help him avoid ～ は、「彼が～に陥らないよう支援する」と言う意味になります。help someone to do と言う様なケースではtoが省略することが多いようです。ただavoidが他動詞としてしか見つからず、また前で代名詞で示唆しているわけでもなく、どうしてもavoidの後に目的格が欲しくなります。 全体的には、 「それで、彼は、彼を喜んで～から助けてくれる事がわかっている、ある人物のところを訪問しました。」

それで彼は、彼が（それを）避けるのを、喜んで助けてくれると知っているある人の所へ行った。 普通なら avoid の後に目的語の名詞か、それを指す代名詞かが、あるのですが、それが無いので不思議に思われたのでしょう。

下記の英文、 At every station a porter would be told to have a ladder ready and wait while the clockman ascended, would the clock, and adjusted the hands. If necessary the train would be kept a miniute or two for him so that he could do the journey down the line in one day. カンマに挟まれたwould the clockの箇所の読み方がわかりません。 文法的にどのようになっていて、訳出をどうするべきか教えていただきたいのですが。 よろしくお願いいたします。

文法がわからない・・ "I got the clean pajamas and gave them to him to change. He can still do that himself; I suppose if he gets so he cannot, I will have to do it." if he gets so he cannotってどういう意味ですか？ 因みに彼は足が不自由です。 あと、；が何故使われているのかも教えてほしいです。
