I would like to take a look at what you are planning and assist you by gathering whatever information I can on your behalf. 「あなたが計画されていることを見せて頂き、あなたに変わって集められる限りの情報を集めることでお手伝いさせていただきたいと思います。」 これは I can gather のgatherが省略されていると思います。前にgathering が出てきているので、省略なしだとしつこいので省いていると思います。 助動詞の後の動詞は、その前に出てきている動詞の繰り返しになる場合は省略してよいそうです。実際、多くのケースでは省略しないと、くどくなるので省略しています。例えば、 I will gather information as much as I can (gather).

言い忘れましたが、今回の場合 book (that) I bought yesterday のような形であり、 whatever I can on とつながっているわけではありません。

動詞があって、その目的語が what 節や whatever 節になる場合によく見かけるパターンです。 どんな情報でも集める この違いがわからない人が多いのですが、 any information でいう「どんな情報」でも と違って whatever information はこれで終わることなく 単なるどんな情報でもでなく、こうこうのどんな情報でも と後に続きます。 だから whatever information の後に that はこないですし、 というかどんなものかを表すような節構造にしないといけません。 それが I can ... 君のために（君に代わって）私ができる どんな情報も 集める 日本語でこれで通じますが、 この「できる」は「集めることができる」に他なりません。 whatever 節内の動詞と 外の動詞が同じなので gather が省略されたと思えばそれでもいいのですが、 Yes, I can. で終わるのと同じ代動詞的なものです。 can で前に出た動詞まで含まれ、一語で表される。 ドイツ語なんかだと助動詞の後に名詞ということもできるのですが、英語ではできません。 ただ今回のようなパターンなら大丈夫です。

この場合に「can」がかかる動詞は「gather」ですね。 まず一文「I would like to take a look at what you are planning.」がありますよね。 →あなたが計画しているもの（の内容）を見てみたい。 そして、「and (I would like to) assist you / by gathering whatever information I can / on your behalf.」ですね。 canとonは直接繋がりません。「on your behalf」で慣用句「あなたに代わって」ですから、文章的にはcanのところで切れます。 「by gathering whatever information I can」は、言い換えると「I can gather whatever information.」になりますよね。「あなたに代わって(on your behalf)あらゆる情報を収集することで(by gathering whatever information I can) 手助けしたい(I would like to assist you)」ですね。 I would like to assist you という文章と I can gather whatever information.という文章を接合するために、by + 動名詞の構文を使っているということですね。 以上、ご参考まで。

温泉宿で卓球して、負けたほうが、マッサージをするストーリーで以下の英文がわかりません。 １）I was going to get my massage. マッサージはもらったも同然です。（訳） なぜbe 動詞が過去形になっているんですか？ ２）If you don't like that idea, then you can give me a back massage now. いやなら、すぐに私の腰をマッサージしてよね。（訳） この英文で使われてるcanは、何の意味ですか？別に無くてもいいような気するんですが？ ここでのcanの使われ方を教えて下さい。 誰か教えて下さい。よろしくお願いします。

would neverについて 学校の文法解説ではwould neverは過去の拒絶とか、仮定法過去の帰結節の否定などで習うと思うのですが、最近このwould never が現在の時制として、しかもifなしや仮定法とは考えにくい文で使われているのを耳にしました。 まず仮定法で使われている例をあげると I would never resent her, whatever she did. この文は仮定法だということがわかります しかし次の二つの例文になるとどういった用法でwould never が使われているのかわかりません 一応仮定法だと想定してif節を自分でつけてみました。（自分で考えつけたした文は（）で囲んであります） I would never do that.(even if you could) I would never lie to you.(even if i needed to) 今回質問したいのは僕のこの解釈であっているかどうか それと、例文のwhatever she did はwhatever she does,またeven if you couldのcouldはcanにしたほうがよいのかどうかも教えてほしいです。個人的にはwhateverのほうは過去形で良いと思うのですが、後者はI will never do that even if you can.のほうがいいような気がします。 でもその場合will never でなくwould never を使う意味は何なのか分からなくなってしまうんですよね。。 以上二点回答よろしくお願いします
