この英文にある、A record～の部分の意味がわかりません・・・。 どういう意味でしょうか？ "But this Labor Day, workers are struggling to stay afloat. Incomes haven't gone up in the 21st century. Inequality reaches new extremes. A record portion of our national income goes to corporate profits, while a record low goes into workers' wages. "

こういう record は形容詞として「記録破りの、これまで最高の」と英和辞典にもあります。 しかし、形容詞と言っても限定用法しかなく（後にくる名詞を修飾） 結局、名詞＋名詞と並べて、前の名詞が後の名詞を修飾するパターンの一環に他なりません。 たとえば、city life で「都会生活」になるような。 実際、辞書にも名詞と分類し「形容詞的に」と書かれているものがあります。 名詞＋名詞の、前の名詞も名詞形容詞（名詞の形容詞的用法）と言われます。 school life なんかを考えると、school は名詞としか感じません。 今回の record portion なども、「記録部分」という感じです。 （もちろん、記録された部分、というのでなく、記録的な度合いの部分） a record low については a がついているように、low は名詞です。 この low は「最低値、底値」という意味で、可算的に a new low や、a record low「記録的底値、今までの最低」 として使われます。

Recordという言葉は『記録』という名詞、『記録する』という動詞だけでなく『記録的な』という形容詞としても使われます。 http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/record 従って a record portion of our national income　は『我が国の所得の記録的な部分』となり、その後の a record low は『記録的に少ない（部分）』となります。
